Finally getting around to mounting the 325's and 305's and I'm ready to cut the wheel well... how much distance (in inches) should I have between the top of the tire and the fender well? Currently, there's about 2 inches on the rear and I have the standard 285 X 18" wheels. On the front the tire fits already very snug so I'm sure that some of it will need to be removed too.

Also, what implements of destruction did you use when you cut yours? I see a jigsaw in the process, and probably a Dremel for the "fine tuning".

Any suggestions are appriciated.

WOW....FINALLY!!!

All I have used is a jig saw. Use blue tape on the paint before cutting. It cuts easy with the right blade and I used a die grinder with a sanding pad to just soften up the edges.

We have about 1.75" clearance on the top of the front and about 2" for the rear. We cut everything short and then had the jig saw on the pit wall for small modifications once we hit the track. The rear tire vertical walls are pretty tight to the tires less than and inch in places. We have found the rubber leaves nice wear marks and its easy to continue to trim until correct. Dont trim to much! We had about 3 or 4 pit road check and trim sessions before it was right.

OK, it’s done! The brackets that firm up the body panels were the only surprise. But they modified quickly enough (with a hacksaw and a few rounds with the air sander) and the rest was a piece of cake. Whole job came in under 4 hours. Car looks great. 325 rears / 305 fronts should make for some interesting cornering and braking. I’m trying to get the car in the trailer before dark but I’ll post some pictures in a little while. Thanks Brian.

oh...right....on the rear tires there is a metal bracket that is only half used now. I bent the back half up but hacking it off is good too....

I guess you already know this!

AWESOME...send some pics. Now you know you will have to go faster and brake deeper to get the tire temps up.....

Welcome to what Daniel and I like to call...... MEATS!!!!

Dont forget to turn easy...the front tires hit the brake strut bar pretty quickly around the pits. You will need to install some steering stops the next time you have to do an alignment do this first. I will mail you the secret material we found that will work.

I am excited for you....I remember when we did this we were so anxious to try them.

The second one got folded up. :) Got it loaded but it's a tight fit in the trailer. It always was close, but now it's really tight! Anyway, here are the pics as the project progressed.

Very nice, wheels look great on the car. Let us know how the lap times compare.

good work. Looks great.

Did CCW send you those lug nuts? Make sure you use the right ones. I unknowingly used the ones that came with my CCW wheels with a set of 17" BBS for the rain and the wheels loosened and almost came off. pitch of the taper is important.

Whens the next track event.

I cant believe how ratty my bodywork is compared to yours. I believe in the 50/50 rule for the race car. 50 ft and 50 mph for looks.

The lug nuts are the same ones that came with the car so no problems there. The next event is at Road Atlanta on March 26, 27, and 28th. Can hardly wait...

I am using the nuts that I got from CCW. I would not use the stock nuts with the new CCW wheels if your car came with the 17" BBS rims. those rims have a different taper then the CCW's.

CCW didn't send any lug nuts. My car came with 18's when I got it. Do you think those be OK or do I need to call CCW tomorrow and experiment with overnight mail?

MEATS!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

I would NOT use the lugs from whatever other rims you were using without talking to CCW. It is very possible you will need new lugs. Call CCW and ask them, you can tell them what other rims you were running and they will know the answer. They can also tell you what taper you need, and you can probably buy lugs locally (or have them ship them). Make sure you check with them...

if for any reason they can't help you, let me and brian know and we can overnight you a set.

to round out your suspension package, now you need the front splitter and new wing supports to reposition the rear wing. those are relatively inexpensive add-ons that really round out the package.

enjoy!! it will be a HUGE difference!

Did you have to break out the jig saw at the track? How much did your times drop if any?

Glad you like them! I guess they still have some life in them :-)

Here’s my “beyond the smile” report!

These bad boys really stick, once they get warmed up that is. Which means the first couple of laps (especially in the early morning) can prove to be quite interesting… I would compare it to riding around on ice. Well maybe not that bad but you have to be careful.

I started out cold with 28 lbs which turned to 33lbs rather quickly. Dropped that back down to 31lbs which seems to work well. As for being faster, there is just no doubt about that. In my case I found myself going into corners much faster than usual. Exit was also quite a bit faster given that the tires are so forgiving. When the ass end starts to get loose it is very predictable, and therefore quite easy to control with the pedal. At least it was for me.

Braking was very much improved, especially coming to the end of the back straight at 10a. As I got more comfortable I found myself halfway between the 200’ and 100’ marker before I got on the binders. And that’s pretty good for me as I’m always braking way too early in this area.

My overall time was much better, but I can’t tell you how much better as I wasn’t timing my runs. But there is just no doubt that the faster entry and deeper braking made one hell of a difference.

I know some of us are keeping our cars completely "panoz stock" for racing purposes. But if you are not one of those, this is an easy mod with spectacular results. In fact, it’s harder to find someone to mount the tires than it is to modify the car.

Sure Mike, I have 10 -18" BBS rims and I would consider selling 6 of them. I'll keep a set handy until I can get some backup CCW rims for my new Meats! What's the going price for a set of used BBS rims?

Wow that looks killer! We're stickign w/ the 17" BBS and 275/40/17s right now for cost and because the car is setup around NASA TTS/ST2 rules.

I used to have classics on my yellow Z06 :D

Just noticed that you don't seem to have any hood latches other than the original 4 and the 2 screws at the rear middle... any issues w/ hood flutter?

We converted the 4 hood supports to hoodpins to prevent it from flopping around at speed @ VIR.

I found the link (http://www.europeancarweb.com/tuned/epcp_0406_meridian_porsche_996_tt/index.html) for the article. I bought this car on eBay when it was about 1.5 years old. Flew out to Los Angles to finalize the transaction and then shipped it out to Florida on a covered transport. It was show car condition and I took care of it in the expected manner. Then one day, at a Porsche lunchen, some a$$ keyed it, and I decided that as long as I was going to have to repaint it I might as well take it to the track once or twice first.

And that was my undoing. I mean really... who could resist driving Road Atlanta, Barber, Robling, *insert track here* in a 700hp twin turbo Porsche! So what was meant to be a once or twice thing turned into 4 years. When I bought the Panoz I decided it was time to put Quick Silver back into the condition it was when I got it. So I did, and today I have this wonderful car that spends more time in the garage than on the road (or track).

And now you know the rest of the story...
