PLEASE HELP 2.4l problems/started w/water pump

im working on a 2000 with the same 2.4l dohc, for a friend of my wifes. what started as a water pump job has turned into a nightmare. i did the pump got it all back together went to start it and the engine cranks but will not fire. it spins really fast. im having the exact same problems as the guy that started this post. has anything worked for you. i also have no compression. yet it drove into my garage. i have tried everything on the timing and same result every time. PLEASE HELP. i did this for free bcuz she is a single mom and close to us, but what a pain

If the car overheated when the water pump went out then you are probably looking at a blown head gasket that will need to be replaced. Since the 2.4 has a timing chain I don't suspect it jumped time so the head gasket is where I would start.
