G20 Dashboard lights not working

I have been fooling around with this problem for two weeks. Each week, I find something new. Can anyone help? I purchased my car from a dealer last month. Its awersome. But they couldn't install the radio. I installed a new radio after going to a junkyard and re-wiring the radio harness back to the way it should be. The radio works great. But I have a orange wire that's not connected to anything. I assume this is for the dashboard lights cause the dash lights do not come on when the lights are turned on. I called the dealer and was advised that the radio and dash lights are on a different circuit. I was rushed off the phone with the dealer. But in any event can anyone assist on this issue. I just need to get the dash lights working.
1. I checked all fuses even the ones under the hood.
2. I grounded the orange wire and blew a fuse so that's not it.
3. The blown fuse was replaced.
Any help. Thanks.

The orange wire is for the dash illumination, there should be a corresponding orange wire on the other half of the harness. On you're new radio, did you buy a harness adapter and we wire the radio like that? or did you bypass the harness. I don't know about Infinitis, but in some other cars if you bypass the harness, the interior lights won't work. Also, I'd double check all those fuses. ALL of them because it might be one of the fuses you don't expect. This happened when I installed a head unit on a G20. I didn't take off the neg battery terminal, so when I put the unit in, it blew a fuse, and it was some fuse that I didn't expect it to be.

Thanks for the info. But I did indeed purchased an harness. My radio a JVC KD-S640 doesn't have an orange coming from it. I assume there has to be a way to rig this to work.
When you said check all fuses do you mean the ones under the hood. I pulled each fuse from inside the car one by one and there's nothing wrong.
Thanks

I'm talkin about the little fuses in the car. sometimes when you pull em out and just quickly look at them, sometimes you can miss a blown fuse. Another question, does the head unit work? like, does it turn on and sound comes out of the speakers? Also, are there any other wires that aren't connected in the harness?

Yes the head unit does work. I do have sound coming out of all four speakers. Everything from the harness is connected except that one orange wire. I will double check the fuses.
If its a fuse does it matter that the orange wire is connected?

Umm, I don't think it should, because I always though that that orange wire was for the dimmer, because you know how when at night when you turn your lights on, the interior lights dim a bit so it won't blind you? I thought that orange wire was so that when you turn on your lights the head unit display would dim. But I'm not sure. yeah, when I did my friend's G20, we blew some strange fuse, that I didn't expect to blow. Anyway, good luck.

sorry if this sounds insulting, but have you checked the dimmer knob to see if it's not down all the way? hehe, i've been fooled many atime by that damn thing.

you said you have a jvc radio rite,
dont your jvc radio light up when you turn it on?
it suppose to light up. i have a jvc too and when you turn it on all the lights on the radio come on too.
the wire that your taking about , its from the factory wire harness or is it on the radio?

Hey guys, yes, I checked the dimmer switch its turned up. The wire is coming from the harness not the radio. That's what making this thing tricky. The lights on the JVC do indeed come on. I will have a PIX to show in a few so you guys can see what I'm doing.
Thanks for help.

Some aftermarket units aren't capable of tapping into the OEM circuit that dims the radio lights as part of the dash lights. Their lights just come on when you turn on the unit.
You should try to get a photocopy of the wiring diagram from that pain-in-the-ass dealer (and report them to Infiniti). You need to find which terminal in the original plug takes the dash lighting signal away from the unit and jump over the orange wire you have to it to complete the circuit.
Good luck

For the G20 there are two wires that control the illumination. One powers the light and one controls the dimming. I don't remember what color was what but you can look that up in the service manual. I decided to not hook either of them up to my new deck becuse for Blaupunkt when it is not connected the lights are always on and that is what I wanted.
