every vehicle has one.
it runs from the crank to the cam.
some times referred to as a timing chain...

Yes, it's a timing belt.
The only production volkswagen engines with timing chains is the 12v/24v VR6 engines, the VR5 engine, the 30v V6 and the W8.
And no, not all engines have one.

other than rotary...
all internal combustion/piston engines have timing belts/chains...
ohc as well as internal cam motors have timing chains...
