97 Accord: Engine fan came on when I turned car OFF

Weird thing happened when I got home from work tonight. It was about 65 degrees or so on way home, but when I got home and turned the car off, the fan under the hood came ON. I went and turned the key all the way before actually turning the car on and when I did that the fan turned off. Turned the key back off and the fan started up again but eventually went off. What do you think is going on? Temperature per gauge was fine.

I think that is how the car is designed. If the engine's temperature goes above the certain limit the fan comes on. The senors are very fine tuned. This has nothing to do with the ambient temperature. The car's gauge also has nothing to do with it. It is there just for your information so you will know that the engine has warmed up.

Check your radiator cap, if it is weak when you shut the engine off the engine core temp rises and the cap looses pressure. This will allow the engine to heat up to the temp that the fan turns on to cool the radiator fluid.
