Distributor Bracket and O2 Wiring

I have a 1996 Jetta and just a few days ago she would not start, but she would crank over. I got her towed to Burnsville Volkswagen and the tech there said that my distributor bracket is missing, like completely gone and my O2 wiring is starting to go bad. Would this cause the engine to crank but not start? What would these problems entail? Thoughts? Suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Here's a link to my blog that shows me trying to start her... http://ikevin09.wordpress.com

Thanks!

Yes actually. I had a similar problem a while ago. Check out the distributer cap and rotor. You can replace both for under 30 at autozone. If there is enough corrosion the rotor won't hit the points on the cap and no start. Check there and report back.
