Wheelin' question

OKAY, I am new to the jeep thing , Ive always loved it from afar, but I have a question. I saw a video where these dudes were in moab by them selves and they had a prety substancial lift on their cherokee. They were going up a good hill and the rear drive shaft fell out of the back axle. Not at the transfer case but the rear where it meets the axle as far as I could see. What is the best way to fix that onthe spot. Did these guys gamble and win that theyd be able to fix it or should they have installed a longer drive shaft so it wouldn't fall out. I want to do things right so I dont get stranded out somewhere. First of all I wouldn't be caught dead out by myself with no other vehicle but that sould be common sense. I will also state that I will not have more than a three inch lift for a good number of years so will this be a problem for me?

I suggest you look for a local wheeling group and join them. They will show you more than you can ever learn online.

If it broke at the differential end then it was a broken u joint. You can fix that on the trail if you have a spare with you. If you don't have a spare you could 'borrow' one from the front drive shaft since they are likely the same.
They probably had too large of a lift for the driveshaft they were using. If you are going to go with a 3 inch lift you probably don't even need to worry about the rear driveshaft. If you get larger than a 3.5 inch then I would look into an SYE.

Thanks dude, I figures that but thought I'd through it out there for a topic of conversation etc. The jeep looked like it had about a five inch lift, but that can be decieving to the untrained eye and all the variables of trim and tire combos, color and cut away fenders etc. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!
