quick help with coil springs please!!!!!!

Hi
I am in the process of putting back stock coil springs on my chevy caprice 1991 sedan.
Here is the thing, the stock coil springs I have are from chevy caprice that i kept when i went with lowered eiback pro kit. Now I am want to go back to stock coils.
Ok here is the problem.
I don't know which side I should put up on the coils and which side I should put down. What I noticed is, that on one of the sides, if you place it on a level ground it sits perfectly straight but on the other side if you try to place it upright it falls/leans to one side. I have attached two photos where the first is where it is sitting upright straight as a ruller and in the second photo it is leaning to one side, I had to hold it to take a photo or else it would fall. Now can you tell me which side i should seat the coils, like 1st photo or 2nd photo?
Also in the photo which side is referred to FLAT side? Is it the bottom side in the first photo? I heard the FLAT side goes up and the rounded side goes down?

The end where the pigtail stocks out is the bottom and needs to be "clocked" properly in the lower spring pocket. Twist it in there and I am sure you will be able to figure out where the right place is.

You mean I should put it in like the second photo? correct!!
And also, I should put the top in first then slide the bottom with a hammer etc?

Yes, the eneven end of the spring (the end with the open coil) should seat in the lower control arm. That is the direction shown in the second photo.
The "free" end of the spring coil will key into a depression in the inboard end of the lower control arm. When the spring is out you should notice two elongated inspection/drain holes in the lower control arm where the spring sits. Only one of these holes will be covered by the spring, and the other must remain open. This is where the "free" end of the last spring coil stops.
As for installation, the lower control arm should be removed at the inboard end to change the spring. Install the upper end first then bring the lower control arm up to the spring. NEVER use a hammer on a spring. Any nicks or gouges will create a point of stress and potential failure.
