Rear suspension noise

I've got a 99GT with some really bad clunking noise coming from the truck when going over bumps.
I'm assuming this is the rear struts or some other bushings or something.
Would just replacing the struts fix this?
What other parts do I need to replace?

It's most likely the struts or upper strut mounts. It could be other components such as stabilizer bushings, links, lateral links, etc... but the struts and mounts are a more common issue.

Ya that's what I'm thinking because the noise is sounding like its up in trunk.
I wonder how hard it would be to just change the mounts.
I don't want to put money in this old baby.

i had an alignment performed on mine by a place called tires plus, when adjusting the rear TOE tie rod they damaged the adjustment and neglected to tell me. i road around on it thinking when they raised the car the shocks must have gone from having the weight taken off of them. i road around on it for about 1000 miles on a broken tie rod! it did clunk alot, luckly it held until i was ready to figure out where the clunking was coming from. when i discovered it was their fault i purchased a toe adjustment tie rod, installed it, and took it to the shop that screwed it up. they realigned it for free. they would not cover the repair because they claimed it broke from the rust

I had a 95 Lumina that made a loud clunking noise on the smallest bumps..really annoying. I found the rear torsion bar bushings were worn just a little but just enough to make the clunking noise. I remove the bushing clamp, wrapped some good tape around it a few times and reassembled. The clunk was gone and it hasn't returned after thousands of miles.

I would look at the stab links first, the strut mounts are a very common issue, and also make sure the lateral arm is not broken. If you are going to replace the mounts you should replace the struts too. I am assuming there are a lot of miles on the current struts. If you do replace the struts and mounts use KYB brand, the monroe seem not to fit properly.

Don't worry Wylie all the suspension noise will probably disappear once it warms up in your neck of the woods. :lol:

weather probably hasnt been too bad. Its been in the 50's for the past week here in WI. of course thats cold for those of you in the south :rofl:

Ya the weather has been great here we didn't get as much snow as Wisconsin,its almost gone now.
That could change though.

So I got the rear strut mounts change and yes they were shot it was a pretty simple task it took about 4 beers 5 or 6 magic works and a scraped knuckle, no noise at all now so maybe I'll keep it a little longer.
You can notice it in the ride as well.
Really I should have change the whole strut but I'm doing the cheap charlie right now.
Life is good once again.
