Looks nice, but it still comes from the largest manufacturer of expensive garage ornaments... :o Got any specs?

Heavy beast of burden... Also funny that the seat height is 26" at the lowest, it looks a lot lower than that. I guess it floats some people's boats. :) What are they actually selling this for out there?

Well they are pretty cool looking, and indeed pretty fast, it is about time harley decided to make a liquid-cooled engine, only about 20 years late. Eitherway, with the going rate at about $20,000, I would rather take a VTX and a 600RR.

hahahaha, At $20,000 I could buy 2 600RRs and have money left over for a new helmet!!!

Those came out in what?..2001? It is certainly not just a 100th anniversary specific model.
Anyways, nice bike, not worth the 16+ asking price, but I got a test ride V-Rod up to 135 mph with no problems...;-)>

The V-Rod's engine was designed by Porsche, and assembled by Harley. Harley isn't a fan of letting out the full truth, that they had almost nothing to do with the creation of the engine, and that a foreign company created it for them.

A Porsche motor, you say? That's probably why the purists don't like it. Yes, it's about time they water-cooled something. At least it won't be cooking the oil into sludge at every stop light.
And if I was going to drop that kind of money on a new bike, it'd be a K1200GT. I could more easily justify spending that kind of money on a stock Inline 4 than a V-Twin.

thats not entirely true about the engine....according to what i have read and heard porche pressure tested (???) the engine to make sure it wasn't gonna tear itself up or somthin like that

Harley came up with the rough concept, but Porsche Design is where it really got tuned.

I'll admit When Harley was bought by AMF thay were Junk. But every Major Motorcycle Manufacturer is copying The Harley cruiser for many reasons and if you have ever ridin one like I have (VTX) is Junk as far as I am conserned I weighs in at what a full dresser Harley weighs. Even the new Kawy 2000 cc is a tank.
For you so called men who ride strapped around the gas tank (600RR'S)and hands go numb in an hour and have to stop to take a break you can have that foolishness I ride hard and long.on my bike and old lady.
You ta-Ta's that like hugging your gas tank as well as your boyfreinds
Get a life.
P.S. Porche designed the heads on the V-rod engine and it will keep up with every other rice runner up to 140mph, You want to go faster good luck holding on to your license.
As far as price Harley holds it's value unlike any rice junk. for eva.

Harley Dav. was junk only when AMF owned the company. There is no other manufacturer that hold there value as well. I have ridin the VTX and the new Kawy 2000 cc. They are tanks that weigh in at a Harley full dresser. There Jap and ride like one. The V-Rod will keep up with anything on the road till 140 and if you want to keep your license would not make much sense to go any faster if you could.
All you 600rr boys that have to take a break after one hour of riding because your hands go numb. I ride all day and hard on the bike and ole lady. You want to wrap around and hug a rice burner well go ahead it's about as cute as you wrapping your arms around your boyfriends.
P.S. Porche designed the heads only on the V-Rod ya you can save some money and buy a rice burner but when you go to get rid of it try getting half your money back for all you tight bookeepers.
Ride free and Die Davidson USA all the rest let me check your green card.

wow you are a winner.
Ever hear of Aprillia? They hold their value about 200% times better than any harley. Go buy a copy of cycletrader and see how many people are selling Harleys, there is a reason for that. The v-rod will NEVER keep up with any sportbike, it is a 12 second 1/4 mile, mines 2 seconds faster, how do you figure that? The jap cruisers, specifically the VTX, have gone through such a meticulous detail to making the bike pleasurefull to ride that it can't even be compared to the archaic design of a Harleys pushrod engine. At idle the 300cc bigger engine than harleys 88ci doesnt even shake the mirrors, its called refinement, something harley doesnt have.
I have ridden to Las Vegas several times on my R1, only stopping for gas, my hands only went numb once or twice when i first started riding. And talk about hands going numb, how about apehangers? all the blood from your hands drain out of your arms, its why they all look so fucking funny riding around town.
Go ahead and keep thinking you are buying an american bike also, considering there are many many japanese items on each harley. Not to mention the fact that the Honda auto plant in Ohio hires MORE american workers than all of harley and buell.
So please, keep stroking yourself off if you want, ignorant people are fun to make fun of.

R-1 I was just about to say the same things. The thing is that the guys that own and defend Harleys have never ridden anything else, they are too close minded to get on a quality bike just the company wasn't started in the US. It's so very sad. By the way AMF poured money into Harley to get the reliability up. With out them Harley would have died.

last time i checked after AMC bought Harley the quality went down the drain, so to speak, thats why harley ended up buying it back....and i have ridden other bikes so this isn't a "close minded" opinion (i.e. i'm not just a Harley fan)

Does any one else remember the Harley VR1000 super bike besides me? It was just shy of 61 c.i.d. (996cc) that produced 150hp and 100+ torque at 10Ks. No push rods here, it had quad cams, 4v.p.c. and liquid cooling just like the V-Rod. Harley designed and manufactured the engines for the racing team because it was a small production run. To keep it affordable (and cost affective), Harley took the design to different manufactures and Porsce got the thumbs-up. They didn't just slap a bike together and stick a twin in it. There was many years of r&d that went along with it. ---Mercury Marine produced engines for the (legendary) ZR-1 Corvette, did that make it any less of a Chevy?
I'm not trashing people that ride metric bikes, I for one have had my share of Hondas. I rode moto-X for many years and my street-terror machines were 600cc thumpers. My nick name in school wasn't "Wheelie" for nothing. I had one of the new Ninjas when they were first introduced and blew my share of Hogs off the road. I was young and crazy at one time and was hell on 2 wheels too. With age you aquire different tasts. I have seen these guys rumble up to the local bike shop on their decked out Vulcans and Shadows wearing the leather duds and trying to be all cool. I can't help but wonder why some one would try to be such a want-a-be. To each his own, but for me it would have to be the real McCoy. ---When this dude on a (real) Harley came thundering up, everyone's mouth just about dropped to the ground. American heavy chrome, real bruteness, and the throbbing in your guts, I haven't seen any ricer do that. It was priceless to be there at that moment--- Harley made their engines to produce the sound that most people like, and that every body recognizes. The crank shaft used in most ricers makes for a smoothe and mellowy tone where the Hog makes a more thundery noise.
You really can't compare the V-Rod to the regular Harley, there are too many differences. You would be surprised how similar the engine of the V-Rod is to the metric counterpart.
I am financially secure and have considered getting another bike. I would love to have a new 999, but being 6'3" has its drawbacks. I'm too big for a bike that small, so I have decided that the V-rod is the bike for me. I have a closet full of Harley gear, I wouldn't feel right on a Ricer. I wouldn't want to be looked upon as a panzi either (not that peeps on Metrics are, but people that ride Harleys look at the guys on ricer cruisers that way).
This is my 2cent's worth.
