i have a 2001 s10 zr2 with 112000 miles on it and recently i started hearing a whining noise when turning to the left i could notice it did it more often. it sarts out when im about to take off. when i go to use my brakes it gets louder and then the whining noise shuts off. but it just starts again when i go to take off again. it deff seems like it coming from under the truck but this noise is killing me. any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a brake pad warning sensor is just beginning to touch the rotor indicating you'll need brakes soon. It could also be a wheel bearing starting to fail.

it sounds more like a pump whining noise than metal on metal or what have you. when it stops making the noise it sounds more of some kind of valve shutting off. i have no idea what it could possibly be?????

Possibly the ABS pump??? but it shouldn't come on if you're not applying the brakes. You can try removing the ABS fuse and see if the noise quits. If it goes away then you'll know.

The ABS unit is located just below the brake master cylinder bolted to the left inner fender. The fuse is in the underhood fuse panel. Look on the label and it will tell which fuse it is.
