This is my 1/12 Revell Camaro modification to the famous Mark Donahue #6 Sunoco Camaro.

I made this model about 11 years ago, there are no aftermarket parts on it, all the modifications and new pieces where made from styrene, brass or aluminum....mainly because I did'nt have to much budget at the time for this model...well, still don't have to much budget for anything these days:biggrin:

The Minilite wheels are scrachtbuilt one at the time and as you can see, I could have made a mold and cast them in resin...but you guess it...no budget for it!!! they are not perfect, in fact I never added the nuts to the wheels screws...is far from been the perfect replica, but is still one of my favorites model projects.

Hope you like it.

Thanks to all my fellow modelers for their kind words about my model, they are greatly appreciated!!

F1 Tommy,

Thank you for the commpliment on my effort for this car.

I know what model you are refering but is not this one(mine)....the one I think you saw was the one made by Randy Derr, which is truly a scale replica of the great 1969 Sunoco Camaro in every sence of the word, mine don't come even close to that magnificent model.

Great looking model!! Those minilites are scratchbuilt??? Can you tell us how you did them? They look nearly perfect from the pictures.

THANK'S again for all the positive comments on this project, they are greatly appreciated!!!!

Hawk312,

Thank you for your commpliment, in fact your 1/12 builds are nothing short of spectacular, love every one of them.....the silver 1969 Camaro project looks SUPERB!!!

The Minilite wheels where made using the "rims" of the 1/12 scale Cragar wheels that came with the 1/12 1957 Chevy, the spokes and center where made of styrene rod and sheet, I could have made one and cast in resin four copys but at the time didn't have the resin or a local place to buy it. The Modeler who did the 1/12 perfect replica of this Sunoco Camaro, Randy Derr also scrachtbuilt his minilites(much better and accurate than mine) and made copies in resin which I think where sold by Replicas & Miniatures Co. these also could be used in the Tamiya 1/12 multimedia Lotus C. I don't know if they are still available.

A member here at the forum who is building(ALMOST scractbuilding will be more accurate!!) an amazing Datsun "Z" car in 1/12 scale also made his own Minilite wheel, which look great and he is selling them.

i been building 1/12 for a while and i just have to ask you how did you build your hood hinges? Your build had me fooled. For a while i did think your car was Randy's car. Very nice!!!

Using a photo of a real 1969 Camaro hood hinge for shape/form reference and looking at is actual operation when opening/closing the hood.....you should see the face of the 1969 Camaro owner at my local classic car club when I asked to take pictures of the hood hinges in particular, it's a shame I lost most of this photo reference with my old computer.
The hood hinges are made of brass sheet cut with small scissors and refined in shape/form with a dremel motor tool with sanding disc and micro drill-bit to make the holes in each part, the "rivets" to hold the " lifting arms" are evergreen plastic rod heated in ech end to make the heads/securing in place, micro screws and nuts would have been much better but....yea, no budget!!!

I have a 1960's 1/12 Corvette Grand Sport project in a box somewhere in my small workshop, made a lot of scrachtbuilt parts including the tube chassis for that one but after seeing the one made by Jim Drew.....mine looked like a poor effort replicar!!
