wipers

in the linkage on the wiper mechanism there is a joint that has white caps pressed in. One was loose & causing play in the wiper arm. I took the whole thing out & tried to press it back in but couldn't & of course eventually broke the cap. Is there a tip for pressing these in or a tool I need? I guess I also need to find another cap somehow. I appreciate any response. Of course now I have no wipers. Thanks

Does it look like a ball and socket joint? If that is what it is you are going to need the wiper transmission assembly. When those pop apart, they are worn out and there isn't anything you can really do about it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the white cap fits over a small steel ball.

I found some detailed info on NASIOC about the issue. I guess the bushing failure is common & there's some bushing replacement kits that appear to work the majority of the time. Thanks again

I installed the replacement bushings & it seemed like all was OK but there was still too much play. I ordered the assembly from the dealer for $97 and all is good now. It was a pretty easy install except I didn't observe the position of the assembly to the motor before I took it apart. You don't want to make that mistake, trust me.

The easiest thing to do is make sure the motor is parked by operating it with or without the wiper transmission attached.
