hey guys, so in the process of starting modeling back up after not doing it since of school scheduling, i decided to give a Ferrari a try since all of my other builds are Turbo Supras... i wanted to switch it up a little, only thing that wont change for this build is some custom detailing as well as a completly custom Twin Turbo set up :) as far as I can tell there hasnt been a Twin Turbo Enzo to this day, atleast not that I could find records of pics off... (if you know of one please let me kno where i can find it) but anyway, on to the 2 quick pictures:
carbo fiber on the valve covers:
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_1188a.jpg
and here is the firewall and my first place for modification, original kit says to paint it silver, but i decided to go the actual way and put on some heatshielding :)
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_1194a.jpg
let me know what you think and sorry that you can see where the turbos are going yet, i promise to try to get to that point really soon, ive just never had to deal with a model that has ALL WHITE components that absolutley need paiting before installing, keep posted :)

im not a smoker either, i think it doesnt matter, i found this box that my dads friend left at the house years and years ago, im not sure if they are all textured like that but i think they might be... if i recall correctly there is even some that are like a stained yellowish tint to them, or bronze, im going to try and see if i can collect some more. The one i used above, if im not mistaking.., was from a Malbaro box which was atleast 3 or 4 years old... not sure if that matters or not.
i'll look around and let you know what i find.

Ive never seen a Revell Enzo, but by looking at it im glad I brought the Tamiya one.
The American model companies like to do everything white plastic, Ive sprayed the spruces with primer before Ive cut anything off, makes further painting eaiser.
For the turbo i reckon do a similar setup to the F40, have a look in the motorsports forum theres an amazing F40 Competizone on the go at the moment.
Cant wait to see more!!

yea i wasnt too thrilled about all the white plastic.... but i'll just have to deal with that... what i was thinking about doing is actually airbrushing all of the components into a flat black color and going from tehre

I've seen many other products have similar foil with patterns. Take a look at Pringles potato chips, yogurt or cottage cheese containers, or any product that has a sealed foil cover. I think I've got cottage cheese foil on my 348 twin turbo firewall.

^^ EXACTLY ! :) :) :) with the kind of money i have already spent on the supplies i try to go the cheapest possible route whenever i can, like buying solder wire in bulk to make turbos instead of paying 4 bucks per set :) but thanks for the insight though. Im off to try to get a few basic parts painted so they arent white and hopefuly start the fabricatoin process of the turbos

well i finally started making some real progress with the enzo.
painted the block

wrapped the seats in carbon fiber and painted the seats in baige leather

painted the headers and wrapped them in heat wrap

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_1210a.jpg
modified the intake box to accept the turbo lines latter and wrapped it in carbon fiber

i still need to figure out eactly how im going to run the intake and compression line to and fomr the turbos... the exhaust side is going to work out perfectly, all i have to do is add in a 90 degree exhaust pipe and i can keep the factory exhaust piping out to the tail pipes.
i basically need to run a line into the middle of the turbo form the oute two airfilter boxes and run 2 more lines into some sort of aftercooler and into the CF intake box.
what do you guys think?

here are a couple of quick updated pics on the TT enzo. I finally got the turbos mounted where they will sit and am now just working out clearance issues... its a damned tight fit, no wonder no one has turboed an actual enzo yet... i still need to touch up the connection between the turbo and the plastic exhaust pipe to make it flow better, and once i get around to painting all of these components everything should start coming together, especially the engine wiring and plumbing.

swwweeeeet. did you have a hard time with that cf on the intake??
ravan17
03-03-2010, 12:00 AM
yea... but i think its because im fairly new to CF decals.. i can lay them really good on straigh surfaces that have minimal curves... but things that have multiple curves in tight spaces i find a bit hard to do.. thats why you see it over lap over by the cap the way that it does. And i also made that out of a little piece of scrap of CF decal that i didnt want to throw away so i couldnt really cut it the way it should have been.

I had some time today after school to start putting some major components together. I started the wiring process as well as running some pluming lines for fuel and what not. Im probably about 15-20% done so the wiring you see is just the beginning (or so i hope :)) . As you can see the interior is pretty much done and the drivetrain will be next to come together, but that wont be until after i install the motor with the complete wiring. Im not sure on what color to paint the body yet...

Someone on the boards built a twin turbo Enzo a while back but I'm not if he ever completed it.
However, what is good in his thread is that it shows a much better (if it were real) placement of the turbos compared to where you have it.
Putting two objects that both get very hot during use right next to the gearbox is not the best thing in the world.
By the same token, you might want to have a look at Turbo'd Group C Le Mans cars to see how they did it.

Thanks for the constructive input guys, thats exactly what i need.
Drunken Monkey, i wish i would have see it earlier.. i know thel ocation isnt completley realistic where they are now but i dont know if i could make a turbo small enough to fit where its right downstream from the collector.. maybe next time i'll do a bit more research before i throw myself at a project like this.. but i guess for now i will just add more heat shielding to the turbos and surrounding areas as well as maybe creating a blanket for the hotside on each turbo.
Midmaz, could you comment on what aspect of the turbo does not look realistic please? I belive it might be the fact that i have not ran the intake pipe with couplings to it yet? Please let me know as I would like to correct anything that looks out of place before things start to get glued in.
thanks guys.

what he means is that a turbo is more than two coils of pipe around another straight one. There are extra details like various connection flanges, fins for cooling purposes, secondary ports for ancilleries and sensors etc etc.
for example, the popular T28

The two housings seem to be too far apart. They aren't perfect circles. Also a little clean up to make them look better.
For future projects, try thepartsbox.com as they have really nice resin turbos. Also search 1/24 resin in ebay and a few turbos will pop up for cheap. Makes things easier also.
Good luck. The motor looks good.

It's at least a valiant effort that you're doing. To be honest, it doesn't seem like many people put much detail work in the CRHA (center housing between the Compressor and Turbine), anyway.
The trim size does look a bit big for scale but it's understandable since it's quite hard to scratch build a small/moderate trim turbo and still get stellar detail into it. Generally when you're running twins they're a bit smaller than a large single (your scale looks a bit like a standard T88). The distance between the two housings doesn't seem too bad considering the scale size you're going for. I'd assume since you angled the compressor that's what is causing it to look too far apart. You may want to clean up the back of the compressor housing and flatten it out a bit of all that excess putty work to give it more definition.
The turbo placement probably would've been better if you had taken out the catalytic converters as it does tend to take up a load of engine bay space. Who the heck needs to worry about being "green" with a scale model? That would've been a better spot to start the turbos than its existing location. Another idea would be to put place it exactly where the gigantic OEM muffler would be and have the turbos placed facing each other (compressor facing compressor).
Also, the exhaust routing is off. All the exhaust tubes seem to lead straight into the turbine without a method. One portion for the downpipe is correct but the other exhaust tailpipe connects directly to the turbine inlet. This inlet would be exclusive for the exhaust tube from the manifold to feed the turbine with exhaust gas.
Of course that might be WAAYY too technical for a scale build but it's always a good learning experience. I do apologize if it seems like I'm ragging on you (which I'm not). Just thought I'd add some thoughts to improve your build. Keep up the work! :smokin:
BTW, are you planning an intercooler setup for this as well?

thank you for the very constructive input man. You gave me heart to relook at the set up :)
current location of the turbos is actually exhaust where the OEM muffler sits... the turbos mound to the little connecting points for the muffler.
I do see what you are talking about with exhaust routing, the portions that feed the turbine would not also be dumped into the atmosphere as that would cause no kind of turbo effect since the ehxaust gas would choose the path of least resistance, (out of the exhaust), i need to address that. As far as sizing goes.. i do believe its about the size of a standard t78 rather than 88, or maybe somewhere in between.
i dont know why i left all that excess on the back of the turbos.. rookie mistake. But its not putty :) its all made from solder so i just need to take those off and adress that issue.
the reason i didnt want to take out the cats was because i was really happy with how they came out wrapped in the heatwrap.
i really wanted to keep the turbos where they are because if i took them out there would be a large open area unless i put the factory muffler back in.. should i just go that route if i can make a turbo small enough to fit where the convert goes?
thanks again for the input, im off to work :)
current location of the turbos is actually exhaust where the OEM muffler sits... the turbos mound to the little connecting points for the muffler.

You might want to also look up reference pics of the Ferrari F40 and other formerly N/A super cars that tuners have fiddled with since they're closer to a street car like the Enzo. There are several examples of turbocharged Lamborghini Gallardos and Murcielago that might give you ideas as well.
Below is the basic layout I had in my head (non-intercooled). Not sure if it'll help you with your project or not. Since the diagram is quite crude, I should explain that the compressor image doesn't show separate inlet/outlets so keep that in mind. Same goes for the turbine side. In my diagram, the turbos would be where the OEM muffler would have been. This will still utilize about the same area you have the turbos at right now.

I dont know why i didnt think about the tt lambos and hte f40.... err... good call. I see what you are talking about with the turbo set up, the only thing that kept me from doing that in he first place is the fact that i wanted to run the compressor inlet pipe to the factory enzo intake box.. which is just slightly left and right of the engine.. i guess it doesnt have to run there though....
but thanks for the idea.. my main focus now is reworking the turbos and making them smaller to fit better, i completly ripped them off and started over, i will save these two for later supra builds as they fit and look perfectly tehre.

Well, technically you still could run it to the stock location you'd just have to run more piping to it. It looks a bit more "tricked" out, though, with the straight shot to the plenum. Good luck! :grinyes:

well i took the advice given and here are the results so far :)
resized turbos, relocated, and ran oil feed and return lines to the center cartridge, here are the results after tonight... its still not 100%, theres still areas for improvement and things like that.... let me know what you guys think..

thanks guys.
The pipes are made out of the same material all of the turbos are, solder wire. I finally went to home depo and got myself a thinner wire b/c hte thicker one i had (the one for all the supra turbos) was too big and i just couldnt get them small enough for the enzo...so i had to get something a bit smaller in diameter

do you guys have any color suggestions for a TT enzo....? i really dont want to do the same-old ferrari red.... I do have a pearl-charcoal paint that looks kinda interesting but im affraid that it might make the car look a bit "gay" if you will with all the flake on a dark paint...
this morning , when looking on the undersid of the car i had a very strong temptation to paint it flat black like the chassis along with black rims.... i guess if it doesnt look good i could just use it as a second primer coat and paint over it... but let me know what you guys think

Cool project! I think your TT Enzo would look great in TS-85 Bright Mica Red (Same color as F2009) on top of TS-21 Gold to show the metallic a bit more. TS-85 looks like traditional Ferrari Red under minimal lighting, but shows the metallic really well under good lighting.
I will post examples in the next couple of days if you are interested. Good luck!

oh what? the pipes? the pipes are not painted, that just solder wire :) thats how it looks, thats why i love it. you can even polish it shinier if you use metal polish.. i just cant because of the way they are glued in, there is no support at all except for the two ends..
I will say this about the kit... besides the engine and interior.. it kinda sucks.. lol. even to my amature model-building expectations. the body doesnt really fit well together, they make you glue together parts that could have easily been made complete from plastic.. ect.. ic now why ppl usually go for the tamiya kits or what not.. but engine i cant complain about since i custom fab a bunch of stuff myself :)
i just cant wait to get this car done so i can keep working on the supras
thanks for comments!

almost finished, going into the finished stages, I gota say.... i am REALLLLLY diaspointed with the fitment of the overall kit as far as the body/chassis is concerned.. hatch doesnt line up, body doesnt sit right, ect... i tried to sand here and there, tried to bend some parts to make them fit, they got better but still doesnt look like it should.. I guess i dont really mind that the hatch doesnt close b/c it will be open to show off the turbos.... hopefully in a few short weeks this one will be done, the one thing i STILL havent learned to do is masking the windows and painted the trim around them... i absolutely suck at that and messed up the front windonw.. i think im just going ot try to cut it out of something to resemble the front glass b/c it really makes the model look fake.. if nayone has suggestions on masking windowns please let me know.
here is what the color looks like, its a gun metal flat color:
