2000 taurus BIGGG trouble!

okay, I am pretty handy with a wrench and rock with a paintgun and airbrush, but I have a 2000 taurus U code (vulcan engine i guess) that has caused me grief. Had some coolant leakage when my girl got it, she drove it around for a while. Put coolant in it when it was low...check engine light came on and she ignored it for a week, then she was heading out to stay with me last weekend. Overheated to the point of dying...GREAT!!!
So i get this car to the shop, change water pump(the leak) thermostat, and the radiator (other leak). Crank this pig and GUESS WHAT....its pouring white smoke out and hell to start. doesnt have the dreaded milky water, but my was fresh antifreeze is now looking a greenish brown. I am already guessing that a headgasket is in order, HAVE THEM to put on already. Question should I worry about a cracked block? Are these known for such antics? I am already expecting a head change...should I worry about the block.

I'd be concerned. The fact that she drove it until the engine died when it was overheating concerns me. The last time I had a car that it happened to, the head on one side was cracked and a couple of the cylinders were scored. Needless to say, I dumped another engine into the car. Sounds to me like you are getting water into a cylinder. I would also check the oil for water, it will have a milk chocolate tinge to it if water is getting into the oil jacket. I would also do a compression check on all the cylinders. Good luck.
