I finished this a couple days ago. I decided to display it without the fairing on, so I built a stand for the faring. I didn't want to cover all the detail of the engine. I used the detail parts wheel set, rivet set and the clutch & fork set. I have the chain but have not assembled it yet. I'm going to give it a shot and if it goes well, install it on the model.

I really like this kit is is really well engineerd and has loads of detail. The detail sets and to the detail but the kit a ton by itself. The wheels are the most noticable difference. The kit wheels are very nice but the detail wheels look incredible. They are pretty easy to build with some patients and a magnifier. The down side is they cost as much as the kit.

Enjoy the photos

I'm sure we'll see plenty more of these done in the coming months, not that I'm complaining! You've done a nice job on this kit, the wheel set seems worth the outlay, as do the other upgrades for it. Superb.:smokin:

Fantastic looking bike.

I held this kit in my hands last week at the hobby shop and decided not to buy it. I'm regreting that decision now.

This model of the RC166 is the most realistically finished one I have seen to date, the only thing giving it away is the cross headed screws which Tamiya supply. Why they cannot supply the correct hexagon bolts I do not know. Sorry rant over, excellent model.
Guy.

I agree with you 100%. Tamiya did just that on the Detail Parts Fork set. The long bolts that hold the fork together have a hex just like the real bike. They even provide a photo etched wrench to tighten the bolts with. I don't see what would be so hard to use a hex any hex instead of the phillips head screws. The hex even out of scale would look better.

tamiya make great kits, probably the best but they are not perfect.

Here are a few more with the detail parts chain installed. I was a little worried about installing the chain. I had to disassemble the rear of the bike rear wheel, shocks, exhaust and swing arm to add the chain. It actually went together easily. The chain sits a little funny because the sprockets are a little narrow but still looks better than the plastic kit part.
