Hello I have a ciera that had a bad fuel pressure regulator. I just replaced it and now upon starting it for the first time it is smoking extreamly bad and running very rough. I know when the regulator went bad it did dump a lot of gas into it. I am wondering if all that gas could have messed up the O2 sensor or the Cat or something else? Any ideas would really help before I went any farther.

First you better change your oil, pull the stick and se if you smell gas, the engine may take a few minutes to clear.

I have already done that as well as new plugs. The regulator went out months ago and the car has been sitting since then. Now it will not start at all and does a lot of back firing out of both ends.

Ok, recheck the plug wires in the proper position, check compression, many things can cause this, if it is still flooding the pcm could be bad also, start with the basics first, 3.3 correct?

I am going to pull the plugs again.. I also checked the Idle air control valve and that is not working.. Just ordered a new one. Not sure if that would cause the back firing though.
