Hello All,

My son took his truck off-roading over the weekend and got it stuck, once we got it pulled out his power steering is not working and the brakes aren't working very well either. Is this is a power steering pump problem? Nothing seems to be broken or bent underneath.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

take the belt off the power steering pump and see if you can pull off the pulley [broken pump shaft ]

with the brakes check for crushed broken lines on the rear axle area ...

Thanks boss. I will give that a whirl. If that's not it, how do you know if the steering box is bad? Also, does the power steering pump pressurize the brake system in any way? Thanks again.

where the brake fluid is located there a lot of hoses ..

it only takes 5min to remove the belt..what happened ?

it the pump shaft is broken this is not your sons fault ..this is another GM screw up....used scrap steel for this part..

for pictures of it you can google it !

I am just now getting to my sons truck and you were right, the pump shaft was broken...the pully came right out. I guess a new one will come with instructions? Will I be able to use the existing pully with the shaft broken off in to it? It appears to have the hydro boost on it. Is there anything I need to be aware when I change it out? I appreciate your assistance very much.

Regards,

Mike

since you have never done this , this can be and is a tough job..usually the pulley needs to be pulled off ...then those lines, proper bleeding as well so as to not damage the new pump....

if I were you with the questions your asking have a shop that has done this before take the job..

Hey boss. Just wanted to post back and say that I was able to replace the power steering pump a few weeks ago. Took about 2 hours and it was a tough job. All works perfect now. Thanks for your help!
