diesel no power

i have a 87 toyota truck with the 2l-t and its useless gutless....i understand that this is no power house of a motor but ...there is a hill that i can go up revving 3 gear and shift into 4th at the top with my sased toy on 35's with 4.10 gears.....and with the diesel on 235/75/15 im in first gear reving but not enough power in second gear...it also seems to have a misfire...i plan to clean the injectors and change the filter.what else should i check..how would i check the turbo to see if its working right? what else could i do to give it a little more power?turn up the injector pump?

We don't have diesel Toyotas here in the states, so if there's not much response to your post, that is why.
