81 Chevy Scottsdale with the 305 v8

As some of you already know I recently aquired a truck, my grandpa passed away back in December and I was left his old truck. Wasn't sure on the condition of the motor and tranny as this truck has not been driven in the last 5 years or so. Went to work on it on saturday, put a new battery in it and it cranked right up after turning over for a few seconds. Has a mech. fuel pump so it had to pull the fuel to the carb. Even on old ass gas it ran pretty well. The tranny wouldn't go in gear so we towed it home. Tranny fluid was super low so after adding 3 quarts the tranny seemed to be working fine. Drove it around the yard some and down the road just a alittle ways to see how it ran. It has a little studder when going WOT just from the old gas more than likely, but I was impressed with how easy it was to get back running. It actually starts much better than the eclipse does.

I got a lot of plans for this thing, mainly just fixing it back up. Not doing much modding to it. Already getting a cd player and some speakers for it, probably going to attempt to tint the windows in it as well. The interior is not to bad, needs the seat recovered but thats about it. Obviously it needs some new paint so that may get done this summer also.

This truck is going to be the dd from now on once I get it on the road. The eclipse is being a huge PITA lately so its getting parked. Exhaust leaks everywhere, cold starts suck, battery is about dead, and now its starting the overheating thing again. Having something else to drive I can slowly fix things on it without having to worry about having a ride to school or not which will be good.

Not to many pics at the moment but Ill have some more next time I got to work on it. Ill just start a project thread on it once I really start fixing it up.

Very nice. Like I said on FB, get a trailor and tow the Eclipse to the track... or have it incase it breaks down. Having a DD is great, as long as it actually does work better than the Eclipse.

Glad it runs good.

My dad use to have a truck that looked a lot like that one, he had that for many many years and it was one hell of a good truck in the snow.

That's cool that she started right up especially with the old gas.

....Its about damn time. Everyone needs atleast 2 vehicles, especially when one is a hotrod. Cant beat a freebie either. You cant really say anything bad about old chevy trucks, they are pretty hardcore. Glad it runs good. The low tranny fluid is common. Naturally when a vehicle sits up for years, it loses tranny fluid.

Yea I'm really excited about getting it. And now I have something to pull the boat with! Always had to find someone else to pull it for me. Insurance is getting put on it this week so I should be able to drive it this weekend.
The eclipse is overheating bad now. Heat doesn't work anymore either. Car ran 230* the whole way to school. Only 7 miles! Hoping its just low on coolant, it was low the other day and added a bottle and a half of water. Car didn't run hot anymore till yesterday so I guess coolant is going somewhere. So tired of this bs

wow, better keep an eye on that coolant. Have you looked at your oil? To see if its mixing. If its leaking somewhere you should be able to smell it.

Haven't check the oil in the last few days, check compression the other day and it was exactly where is was last time I checked it. 180-190psi. Ill just have to keep an eye on it for a while to see whats up.

Once I get all these leaks straightened out Im planning on really seeing what this turbo is capable of. The turbo is super conservative at the moment so I plan on raising the boost and adding in the timing I pulled. Gonna max out these 650s pretty soon. Now that I got something to drive in case I do mess something up.

Is the injector duty cycle damn near 100%?

It was but when I added meth I was able to lean things out a little bit and Im running 11.5 afr. They will probably max around 25psi or so.
