What is the difference between the I6 and the L6?

I and L are the same thing literally. I=inline L=longitudinal. Longitudinal would describe how it sits in the car. A longitudinal engine would sit in the car sideways, you would face the side of the engine while sitting in the driver seat. Usually found in front wheel drive cars.
