I replaced in 2004 the fuel pump as it would not turn over. Dealer said this is a poor gas issue. Six months ago I noticed when I cranked it over, it would not turn over. Usually, one quick key turn and it catches right away. The not start has increased more frequently. If I turn the key off and then turn it on after about 30 seconds without turning to start for about 15 or more seconds it will usually start. It sounds like fuel pump troubles again and I would like any other ideas including the best way to change the in tank fuel pump. Any suugestion is welcome. I would be doing the job myself.
Thanks

before changing anything follow the pressure test proceedure listed here at these forums..low pressures are a good possibility...if it is the fuel pump use the delphi fuel pump...
the other problem may be the ECT ..this tells the pcm/computer what the engine temp is so as to give the proper amount of fuel on a cold start..if the pcm is told the engine is hot when in fact its cold you will not have suffecient fuel on cold start..

I haven't had a chance to dissemble the unit as suggested. The weather here has been cold and snowy with a few other ranch vehicles in more need of repair. I believe the suggested solution will fix the problem. I'll keep you posted and thanks for asking.

I will try to get the dealer to check the pressure and those other things as I'm not sure what they are? I guess I'm still back in the old days of points and rotor. You provide great info which makes it easier dealing with mechanics that are playing the game.

checking the fuel pressure is an easy task...If you live near an auto zone I bet they will show you how to do it..the cost for a pressure guage will be less than the dealer cost to measure this...
