A low fluid level would do that to you.

I did checked that, even added quart. Still the same. I was at the dealer today, paid them 130 for diag. they said tranny is going down, asking for 3600, my car doesnt worth 3600. thinking of buying tranny from junkyard for 400-500 and installing my self, is it possible. Somebody swaped tranny in homemade situations? they said one ofthe clutch teeth is broken. i wish i can see thru the metal and tel diagnosys. LOL.

With 105k the tranny is on it's way out. The clutch packs are getting worn so much that they slip after changing into an upper gear., such as 2nd to 3rd. A clutch pack has several fiber discs with metal discs in between. When the fiber discs get worn it causes a slippage, then when it does shift it shifts hard because of the amount of play in the packs.

I"d put a bottle of transmission medic in it. That will swell the fiber plates in the clutch pack and keep if from over revving and shifting hard. Normally, I wouldn't suggest it, but you're only a short time to an overhaul. I am like you. I don't have 3600 bucks to put into a car.

Getting another tranny from the boneyard would be a prudent thing to do. Try to find one with low mileage. $400 tp $500 is the gong price. If you had someone to put it in for you figure about 8 hours of labor at $50/hr. Still a long ways from $3600. Put a couple bottles of trans-medic in it and see if it helps.

Thanks for advice. I did call my local boneyard, they have one for 500 bucks, with 62kmiles on it. Just curious how i can be sure about mileage on tranny? Is somebody on this forum swaped tranny on their backyard? What is involved there? is it doible?
thanks

Hi to everyone.
Just giving you update, i decided before i will change tranny gonna do oil change, so i did it today. found some metal dust on the magnet not alot. changed filter, added 7 qt of Mer5, it seems like my slippage desapered, well almost, only hard upshifting and downshifting left. Did try highway, not bad. what you guys think is it still safe to drive(Clifton NJ to NY NY)? i just dont have a lot options to deal with it. Here is what i am planning to do if its not safe to drive, gonna try to rebuild it my self, if not gonna work, gonna get used from salvage and install it.
Iam just curious maybe its not tranny at all, since oil/filter improve my driving.??? i was reading a lot of posts and they saying like speed sensor and all bunch factors can cause that, since no check engine light.???

thanks for help
Steve
