97 Jimmy SLT 4.6 With a full tank of gas the gauge reads about an 1/8" past the full mark and runs out at the beginning of the red zone. I want to get an Auto meter fuel gauge and install it, anyone done this before and if so do you have any tips or tricks with getting the dash out quick and easy ?

First check the problem.
Is the sending unit in tank bad or dash gauge bad?
If tank unit is bad a dash gauge is not going to help you.
Is all othe gauges working right?
Have you checked for good tank unit ground?
Is fuel pump pressure up to par?
Take a bulb type test light and hook it to wire to fuel tank sensding unit and see if gauge swings to full or empty.
Post back what it does.

More likely than not, it will be the sending unit inside the fuel tank that is bad, and not the actual gauge.
97s were known to have this problem.
You'll need to lower the tank, and remove the fuel pump to replace the sending unit. You'll have to buy the sender from a GM dealer, or better yet, get a whole new pump assembly, which includes the sending unit.
