Lifetime fuel filter and bad ign condenser

Hello to all.
I have a couple of questions. My friend has a 93 Corolla that was "stumbling" upon acceleration. Idled smoothly. I suggested fuel filter. He took it to a shop and they informed him his distributor is bad due to a "burnt" condenser in the distributor. Later that eve I rode with him to pick up the car. I asked the mechanic if he checked the fuel pressure and or the filter. He told me that the fuel filter is LIFETIME no need to replace it. Is this true? Secondly, he put the old distributor back in so we could leave. Car runs just as good as it did b4 the stumbling. I drove it about 7 miles with no hitches. Also, could the condenser cause this problem. It would only stumble upon moderate acceleration.

Unless you contaminate your gas tank with dirty gasoline, you should not need to change the fuel filter. However, not all filters last the life of the car for the above reason.

Since replacing the condensor cured the problem (if it was in fact replaced - you didn't say), then I would conclude that it could have and did cause the stumbling on acceleration. If it wasn't replaced, then yes, it could cause the problem. Since the problem is therefore intermittent, it is unlikely to be the fuel filter since it would not normally present an intermittent symptom, like stumbling.

Thanks for the reply Brian. The condenser was not changed. He simply put the distributor back in. And thank you for the fuel filter info. I always thought that it is a "suggested" replace after so many miles. Well here in Cali, I notice the gas here sucks. I was thinking due to the rust factor because you can get some water and other crap in our gas here, it should be changed.
