Oil leak 1994 Suburban, 2 WD, 5.7 liter engine, passenger side of engine, drips onto the starter. Any ideas what's leaking? The pan bolts seem real tight, and I'm afraid to force them tighter; but I'm not so sure that it's the pan leaking...

Check your dipstick tube where it fits into the block. Sometimes the seal fails. Most everything else would have to leak from the front of the engine and run back along the pan edge.

overtightening the pan bolts is risky..most always it will increase the leak..

using a detegent and a brush clean the area thoughly..then run for a short time to observe where the leak is...normally its fwd of where it drips down..

lets say you see an area where the pan leaking , you remove the bolt spray electronic solvent into the bolt hole and apply sealant onto the bolt threads then torque the bolt down , but not too tight..this usually works...much easier than droping the pan...

also remove the flywheel cover to properly inspect this whole area..

make sure the PCV is working correctly..If the crankcase has pressure this causes oil leaks every where..the crankcase should be under a slight vacuum...

I will replace the PCV valve, good idea, could be from blow-by pressure. Just where is that PCV rascal located, anyway, which side valve cover? And I'll check the dipstick tube seal as well, thanks.

it's a small metal elbow located ontop of the valve covers ..well one side or the other. also you can just flick the vacuum tubes where the connect into until you find the one that sounds like a rattle. thats the pcv valve.

Most likely driver side. Should be silver tainted with oil.
