First Post,
Just bought a new 2010 Silverado 4x4 Crew cab. The problem is I don't believe the voltage/amps are correct in the vehicle. I pugged my Iphone 32Gig 3GS into both the power out put on the console and also tried the USB port just after getting the truck. After doing so I notice the IPhone doesn't stay charged as long as it use to. I noticed a decrease in the battery life almost immediatedly. I only pugged it in a couple of times while driving. After roughly 4 day I would start the day out with a fully charged iphone. By noon 4 hours later my battery was red lining at 20%. I sent the phone back to Apple and they replaced it as the phone is only 2 months old. I should add htis is my second iphone and my wife also has one so I have an idea how it should work.
The day I picked up the truck it was getting a "Battery Low" alert on the DIC "Start Engine". It happen again a few days later. One week to the day of buying the truck I had it back to the dealer for under coating so I asked if they could check the alternator. I had noticed that the charge gauge would show between 12 and 17 -18. So I thought maybe it it was over charging. The guy at the shop told me this was normal. I suspect now they never really checked it. The other day I had a low batery alert again after the truck had sat for a day and ahalf.
Last night I plugged my iphone in to the USB jack thinking if there was a power issue it was with the power outlet on the console. Today my iphone again is loosing its charge quicker than I expect.
Is there away I can check the power out put myself? Has anyone else heard of this? I will call the dealer and ask that they really check this out, but I suspect my phone will have to go back to Apple and I doubt they will replace this one for free.
Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.

I suspect that the batterie in your Iphone is defective ..also using a car charger if not the correct one could charge the Iphone improperly...If possible check with the manufacturer what auto 12volt adapter is correct with your model..
using the dash guage for exact voltage output of the alternator is not to be used ...buy a good volt ohm meter and measure on cold start should be 15 volts if very cold out..when engine is at the normal operating temp the voltage should be 13.75volts...
the voltage output can vary from 13.25volts to 15.75volts dc..
from very hot to very cold with normal temps should be at 13.5 to 14.25 volts...

Thanks for the reply.
I don't believe the battry in the iphone to be defective because I had the phone for 2 months without a problem until I plugged it into the truck. I was using a proper adapter for the Iphone. I had not had a problem with any of my other vehicles with the phone. Apple has since replaced that phone with another which because I thought it my be the power connector I plugged it into the USB port last night. Now this phone seems to drain faster than it should.
Still investigating, I've been trying to find something that will tell me the exact output of the power plugs and a good way to test them to see if there is a change from when the engine is running and when it is not. Is the power stable or does it spike.

the vehicle power plugs are normally always powered up ..the charging adapter must have a current limiter to regulate how much current is applied to these Iphone batteries..too much current can damage the batteries...
also for you and others with devices plugged into these power plugs make dam sure these devices are fused correctly at the power plug adapter...for the sized wire used to these devices...
if not you may find you interior burned up / maybe the whole vehicle..
