Hello everyone, its been bugging me for ever now. I have seen that other peoples taurus headlights and tail lights flash when they lock or unlock their doors with the key fob, acompanied by a horn beep. I have a 2001 SEL with EATC (if it matters). Is there a way to program my car so the lights flash when locked or unlocked? The horn does beep, just no lights. Except my interior dome light comes on until i enter the car. I have looked high and low for an answer to this all over the internet, So if anyone could help me here i would be greatful. Thanks:runaround:

ps: It has the factory alarm, and i am pressing the lock button two times, and the lights flash when the panic button is pushed.

Do you have an owners manual? The information will be in there. If not, click here (https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/default.asp)and enter information and download one.

i do have a manual somewhere, but i downloaded it too. there is no procedure to get the lights to flash when locking the doors. I also looked at a couple of manuals from other ford cars, like and explorer of the same year and the describe the lights as flashing when the lock button is pushed two times. So aparently its not a feature on the Taurus and Sable of my year. Does anyone know why ford wouldnt make this a feature, im sure it would have been simple for ford to do. I have never had a RKE system which did not do this. Oh well. Thanks though :uhoh: :screwy:

The 2001 Taurus I had would flash the lights and beep the horn. If you press the lock button once the horn should not sound, but press the lock button a second time and it should sound. Hope this helps.

Ok, I saw a video on youtube, where a guy changed the GEM in his 2000 Duratec to one from a 2003 or 2004 so he could get the function on his car, Is this ok to do if i were to find one in a junk yard? Would there be any compatibility issues? I know Shorod knows just about everything there is to know about the Taurus, so any help would be great.

Can't offer much here. I've never changed a GEM module, but the service manual suggests these need to be programmed to the car. Download the software from the old, install in to the new. If it's not possible to download from the old, then go through the setup and "tune" it to the car, all through the WDS tool that pretty much only the dealers have.

I suppose if you found a GEM module from a 2003-2004 Taurus that had all the same options as your car there would be a good chance of it working, but I could not guarantee that, or even that the connections are the same. The newest service manual I have for a Taurus is 2002.
