Meanwhile I am waiting from Hiroboy some carbon fiber decals to go on with my BMW I want to show u a work I am happy I completed.
From my stop for this waiting till today I had to finish 6 models, and actually I am scratchbuilding a prototype car for alfa romeo in 1/43. If interested I can start other new threads, but think maybe u like more 1/24 cars, just let me know.
This is the 430GT2 used by AF corse in the le mans 24 hours race in 2008,driven by Ben Aucott, Joe Macari and Adrian Neway (yes, that Adrian Neway).
The AF corse is a small company near Piacenza (nord Italy) racing FIA-Gt class vehicles.
Usually this car is painted in red,but this special one was imho too nicer cause used the red bull blue livery only for the LM 24 hours, and I love blue cars (actually I love blue in general :naughty:)
Looking around I didnt find any model I liked about the gt2 version,I know studio 27 makes some versions, but they are actually hybrids between the 2006 and the 2007 version.
Italian Tecnomodel announced years ago a 24th scale car, that never come to life (at 2010, still nothing. Shame cause teh 575 was a nice model)
Being also quite simple to modify the standard 430 into the gt2 version I used the Challenge done by Fujimi.
At my start I still didnt decided for any final livery, cause was not so sure of the final result. We will see the adventure to finish this model.
I started taking the fujimi body and placing the first points where start modify the front end and the bumper of the 430.
An old box of a porsche 956 from tamiya is sleeping behind me, this will be the time to take some parts from that model....as the nacas from its tail and the main wing.
I started placing the biggest naca duct into the nose of the 430, and using plasticard (0.75mm) I made the lower part of the front bumper

here we go:
now is time to give correct shape to the fornt of this geetee2,to do this I used 0.75mm plasticard sheet styrene nearly for all, and also cuted the door line cause the gt2 has a different wheel arch in the front end.
The main body remains the standard one (so dunno why many producers made a wider body in the rear part...doh).
Also think will be cool to open a door (driver side) to show the cockpit when the model will be finished.
It is really too better work on very thin plastics as Fujimi one, much better than work over diecast (as BMW) where u can only have a curbside model.
The gt2 also has 2 little holes near the front lights, they should be extra air intake for brakes. The duct were made in palstic (I took theme from the thin plastics u find in kid drinks)

the rear part of the gt2 has different lower extractor and also both the exhausts arrive in a different point than the Challenge version.
To do this I cutted all the lower part of the chassis and remade the extractor with some aluminium coming from a can.The grille hiding the exhaust was coming from a remaining part, not a PE cause they are mostly bidimensional, and I wanted something little more 3d for this effect.
The lateral air intakes (with grilles) have a different shape, and look bigger in size.
With some tamiya rod I also build the engine part of the roll cage, also here, different from street versions.
After some finishing work on the front end we are ready for the first coat of grey primer...

The car used by this team has a bigger couple of extra lights in the front bumper. If u look carefully the real pics I posted short before u can see the 2 yellow ones down there are different.Think this is only on this vehicle.
I used some extra lights coming from Tron 1/43 accessories detail set.
I also started to plan the custom made decal sheet, using bare metal decal film....will they fit with white and yellow letters over a dark metallic blue surface?..we will see..:screwy:

Looking good so far, I love this car and Im glad to see somebody doing it. However, the NACA duct on the hood looks a little too large, other than that the modifications look great!

Thank u guys.
Yes, the Naca duct is a too little big, but I like the shape Tamiya gave to this part over Porsche's tail.
On the gt2 it looks anyway ok for me, so I keep it.I love to cut and paste, u know :naughty:
The next step is try to remould the main rear wing.Even from that scrapped 956 I took the main wing (u still can read the Rothmans letters on it), and shortened it to the correct size. The biggest problem here was to give the correct S section to its front.
To do this I cutted the last part and heated a little the plastic, refixing it 2 mm lower for each side, using super glue and some milliput.
Then I start also to fix the differences between the Challenge's roll cage shape and the FIA GT2 spec ones. Those last are quite bigger and have 2 big X tube to protect the doors side. All was redone using my beloved Evergreen sheet styrene (they shall give an Oscar to Evergreen.Without such, nearly no way to modelling for me :cwm27:)

...always sorry for my english guys. It is terrible and I know.Just I hope u can understand what my brain wanna tell u :eek7:
All was redone using my beloved Evergreen sheet styrene (they shall give an Oscar to Evergreen.Without such, nearly no way to modelling for me :cwm27:)

what do U mean?
I made the real GT2s for a company I worked with in 2006.
The body panels are exactly the same of the street version, it is only the front wheel archs that are little different and wider.
The rest of the main body is the same.
Studio 27 made it wider also in the back, but thats a mistake.Check carefully the pics and u will see that (again I talk of the REAR fenders)
check it out here ;)

I have studied in person the Risi car many times at Petit LeMans and I know the rear fenders are wider. You can clearly see in this pic that the body sweeps outward after the door.
The one you worked on may not have.

Another part is to make the exhaust under the rear grille, I did it with Evergreen tubes. The final is an alu tube coming from Minimeca stuff (btw..what happened to Minimeca espana? it was a very great company doing a lot of metal accessories for tanks an airplanes..)
Time is up for a general fitting test for all this stuff (roll cage, body, rear part).
The look is convincing me, soon is time to add some paint..

I've seen in person and done engine ispection to Kessel Racing car, the Risi competizione and this AFcorse.
The rear was ordinary metal part from Ferrari,no carbon fiber there, so I did not touch it.
The rear bumber is done in CF, and in fact fits on any street 430 (they gifted me both the front and the rear CF damaged parts..but I still miss a personal real 430 to fit theme)
U can see that from the lower part of the doors, that comes straight to the rear wheel without any (significant) curve.
Searching around the net here..cause at the time I've found is a nice pic of a british GT2 parked near a spider 430 and teh pic is taken from the back. They are identical.
The engine itself didnt have so many modifications from the street one (compared to other LMP cathegories and Gt1 class cars),
The car is even gt2 class, so quite a pig in racing.

The fender widens mostly at the center line of the axle.
The lower part of the fender buldges to the wheel opening but it is also widened at the upper crease/character line. Wider than stock.

The decal test was done as I told before with bare metal decal film.My hope was the yellow and whites can cover the blue, but later on we will see the problems I found during decal application.
Another VERY big problem was to find the correct wheels for this car, and here I really give it up, cause didnt find at the time nothing identical to the real rims used by the gt2.
I took theme from a toycar, the look was similar to the BBS used, even if the rear wheel has a different rim.
Tested also the Sakatsu BBS alu wheels but they are flat, so wrong for wrong I choosed to save theme for a future project (I have a real feticism for BBS wheels, also in reality.. LOL).
Also now is time to cut the side window and test the fitting of the trasparent parts. Sometimes they are a problem in fujimi kits, thanks God these are new mouldings, much more precise than older ones.
I also rebuild part of the internal door side, starting from kit part, and recreating a door hinge to fix it to the finished model.

Yes, S27 kit is a little too much, I have the kit, but the real car is still a bit wider than stock, maybe one inch to inch and a half each side.
The reason the race rear bumper will fit a stock car is because the very back is not where the car is wider....it's mainly wheel area.
The front is so wide that at most angles it tricks the eye giving the illusion that the rear fenders are not widened.

Than k u Paul, at least somebody likes my work out there :icon16:
Time to test the bare metal decal sheet I made with my inkjet printer.
I used an old Williams fw11 body painted in the same color I would like to use on the 430.
Unfortunately, as I suspect they cant cover the dark metallic blue color, even if I placed 2 of theme. The yellow remains as deep green. This is a really big problem, cause this project cant go on...unless I find a good solution.

Start to be a little worried.
I can finish the car in the usual too boring Rosso Ts-49, as the presentation cars, or as the white standard body they deliver to clients before the personal decal apply....but I deeply prefer a racing livery....what do to noW? :runaround::runaround::eek7:
I decide anyway to go on , and try look around to fix the other big problem to do this car, the wheels.
I took theme from a 1/24 toy of the Peugeot LM TDI.
They are a little too big (read wider), but will work with dremel and refit theme in the correct shape.
The rear rim is different I know, but this is the nearest thing I found looking around

For the decals, your best bet would be to get the artwork printed in an ALPS. That way, you could get a white base under the yellow.

Any tip is wellcome then.Thank u for any further info from u.
For now I called the friends in Studio 27 asking if they could sell me a decal sheet (cartograf printed) coming from one of their GT2 model.
I choosed then the yellow/blue Risi racing car, just cause I dont wanna make the red cars.
The final look will be wonderful anyway, even if for me surely less cool than mine af Corse redbull car.
The car I got decal is this:

For now I called the friends in Studio 27 asking if they could sell me a decal sheet (cartograf printed) coming from one of their GT2 model.
I choosed then the yellow/blue Risi racing car, just cause I dont wanna make the red cars.
The final look will be wonderful anyway, even if for me surely less cool than mine af Corse redbull car.
The car I got decal is this:

thanks a lot to my "paesano" mate Gionc from scuderia, ;) he gave me the correct tip to print the decals, so now I can go on with the redbull unique livery.
Too happy for this, and anyway will save the Risi competizione decal sheet for another future gt2... ;)
This model can go on then...:lol2:

Could you share that tip? I am trying to design some stuff for custom decals and wouldn't like to run into the same problems.. :icon16:

I gave to the interior a base with flat alluminium, also to engine bay.Preparing the color also made a metallic mixture with silver and gunmetal to obtain the correct darker color for the rims.
Enclosed there is also a pic where u can see the difference between standard ultra low profile tyres of the Challenge Stradale, and the FIA-Gt specs tyres.
Also the rear glass was rebuild flat without any electri system on it.

I love the way this has turmed out. Only complaint I have is the air inlets seem a bit out of scale, but not much you can do about that. Keep up the good work
(Edit)
Idk if you care about the size, but maybe you could try cutting a slit down the undersides of the kinked straw and rolling it into the smaller size and gluing it at the size you want...just an idea

trying always to do my best, the level of the works in this forum is always impressing and at an incredible high level.
U are right rx7king.they are a little oversized, but already in place (this model I build last year, not now). For the bmw I am planning something different, cause need to do the same for some tubes she has inside.

Not trying to bash the model by any means, just thought it might be a good tip, but I've never tried myself. Your level of skill is definatly very high, and certainly higher than mine

quick question.. I will be making an opening door on another model and I was just looking at how you made yours open. did you just stick 2 pegs in the door and 2 holes in the side slightly bigger so it can pivot? any help would be nice.
GREAT GREAT build btw. it's gorgeous

thank u all guys.
As I told at the beginning this was a model I made last year, thats why it come together soo fast..LOL.
It took nearly 2 months to finish it.I am anyway a quick modeller, yes, cause build model for customers so have to respect the dates of delivery.
for wolf:
yes, I did it that way.
Surely it also depends from a model to another. In this ferrari doors are low and small, surely with bigger doors u have to plan it a little different.
the door trick is anyway cool and very very easy to do..isnt it? :icon16:

That is amazing. I always love to see a Ferrari model that is in a color other than red and yellow. I am very impressed. You say you have customers? How much do you charge them for a model of this level?

prefer to talk in person about this.
This model is an heavy modification of a standard kit, the decals are scratchbuild.
The price can be high, and could be delivered only by hand.
Usually so complicated models remains in my scuderia cause I am the first loving such ones ;)
