I'm on I-5 yesterday going north through seattle at about 9:00 p.m. when a Subaru WRX pulls up next to me. It was a kid driving and he kept looking over and nodding at me to race. Now I know those new WRX's are very fast cars but I figured what the hell might as well run him. So i nodded back at him and he dropped it into third and went. I dropped it into third and went after him. We were probably going about 60 at the time. At about 70 I was even with him and started pulling away from him (which very much surprised me) and by the time we hit about 90-100 I had about a car on him. After that I shut it down since there was a lot of traffic ahead and I can't afford a ticket. I looked over at the guy and kinda smiled at him (on of those you're car is supposed to be faster but I beat you smiles) but he just looked really pissed off. Oh well. I had a lot of fun plus this was probably my best kill in my teg. considering the kind of car I was up against.

The other question I have is if you have a 92 GSR why would someone swap a B16 in it? The B17 would have more torque and a fatter power band.

well, when your B17 gets tired, which is cheaper?
I havent even seen a B17A for sale, the cable tranny/B16A1 is like 1000 bucks complete.
I guess the guy he bought it from could have just rebuilt it, but???

there's more parts for a B16? :o
WRX's just grip and grip and grip
Best motoring summed up the WRX in its brilliance
It doesn't use electronic gadgets but rather obsessive placement of the parts involved so that weight is distributed ideally and that better driving is achieved because of it. UNLIKE THE LANCER which uses lots of Gadgets. Should the two be mashed together. I feel sorry for whatever poor soul races the vehicle that is spawn and baptised in the guts of the car it would devoir (shit i can't spell)

most if not all of the parts for a B16a should fit the B17a

I saw his arm grab the stick for one and then heard his car rev up a lot more and it kinda jerked a little like when you put it from fith into third real quick.
Oh and I have no idea why the B17 was swapped out of the car. I bought it with the B16 in it and I've asked a few tuner shops why you'd wanna swap a B16 into a 92 GS-R and they said for one it lasts longer, for two you get more horsepower easier out of it than the B17 and the redline is a little higher. 8200 instead of 8000. (I don't think it really matters though).
Don't ask me why but those are all the things I was told.

your car redlines at 8200 rpm........ you think the b17 redlines at 8000 rpm? What is the b16a? Is it an A2? Why do you have V-tec (VTEC) beside b16a in your sig? I mean I know you see b16a's without VTEC all the time but really I'm curious . There is no way in hell you beat a WRX with the mods you have listed either your not telling us something or you a liar. After seeing your post about the s2000 motor being able to fit in a civic, I'm going with number 2.

I have raced a wrx from a stop (Yes i was spraying), he pulled around 1 1/2 cars on me at take off, but in second gear I pulled up on him and pasted him rather quickly in 3rd. They seem to get slower once they are moving fairly fast, I guess the AWD system eats up some power. Anyway I think it would be unlikely that the gsr would win unless the kid in the wrx didn't know how to drive or something.

I believe that. As an owner of two AWD cars I know that you get off the line like a rocket, but at higher speeds the AWD just sucks up the HP. As for the original race, I won't call BS. I've seen plenty of cars that should win races but don't because the driver did not know how to handle the car. It takes a lot more then the stats of a car to win a race.

A fellow from school who owns a WRX also agree's that his power trip is over once he's doing around 80mph... Those 3 cat's can't help top end prowess much either..

Ok first of all you're an idiot. I know the B17 redlines at 8000rpm. My engine is a B16A1. I have a V-tec beside my B16A because I've had a lot of people ask me if I had V-tec (some don't happen to be carnuts). Now either you're the retard or you can't read cause I didn't say you could just fit a S2000 engine into a civic. I said you'd have to do a lot of custom welding and other stuff. Oh and another thing. The best 1/4 mile run for a WRX I've ever seen was 14.4. The average is about 14.6-14.7.
I've only taken my car to the track once and ran a best of 14.7. You do the math. And don't call me a liar when you don't know what the hell your talking about. Research your sh*t before you talk sh*t

I wanna run you sometime. It would be a close race I think. We can post the results on here afterwards cause I'm sure everyone would like to know. Let me know when you wanna run sometime or give me a PM with your phone number so I can get a hold of you.
And another reason the B16 is better than the B17: The B16 has a near perfecct stroke ratio at 1.74 (1.75 is perfect). That is the closest to perfect in any stock car engine you can buy.

as for ur motor...if its the b16a1, then its not going to say "1" on it. it'll be jus b16a on the block OR b16a4 which runs the same numbers (if u have the j-spec 170/112)

2nd gen GS-R with the B17A1 redline's at 8100 and fuel cutoff is at 8200. The marker at 8000rpms is white and turns red at 8100rpm indicating redline. VTEC is spelled in all caps with no dash or lower case letter's, and all b16a's are equipped with it. The s2000 motor sits in a completely different direction than the b-series or other civic motor (there are coutless other problems as well). That conversion would cost more than 15 grand, shure anything is possible with enough money but I know we ran into about 30 different problems when just trying to draw a poly on it. Now WRX's run a 14.4 1/4 mile, ok so your running a 14.7 and you pulled an entire car length on him???? I'm sorry man thats just hard to believe unless he didint realize you were racing till last min. and even then he would have pulled on you. I'm all for the teg winning, hell I love honda and everything made by them. But I can't overlook the wrx's impressive power rating's/times. Let me add that flaming will not get you far in this forum. Thanks for the kind words KrNxRaCer00, I guess I did jump on him a bit my apolagies for that.

The wrx can get to 14.4 stock but this is also because of the AWD traction it gets. At highway speeds AWD gives you the disadvantage because you loose hp[ in the AWD system. If it would have been drag racing from a stop the wrx more than likely would have won, but not at highway speeds. Also I don't know about the b16a but I know that b18c1 gsr's have a little lag in first gear until vtec, which plays a role in 1/4 times but obveously not on the highway. I am not flamming or anything either I am just giving my thooughts on the subject.

Yea, I agree. From a stop, WRX all the way. From a roll, it's a bit harder to say who the winner is. I think the story is very believable. Good job!

Yea, I agree. From a stop, WRX all the way. From a roll, it's a bit harder to say who the winner is. I think the story is very believable. Good job!

Sorry I got a little mad in my last post. I just don't like to be called a liar. I know that the S2000 motor sits a different direction and that it is way more complicated than I said but I was just trying to explain the basic things you have to do. Me and my friend figured about 15 grand cause his uncle owns a shop so he can get all the welding, etc. done pretty much for free.
On the WRX I agree that if it was from a stop he would have taken me but it is true that AWL eats up a lot of HP. He also knew we were racing cause he started to go first. Also it was from 60-100mph and I slowly pulled away so that the back of my car was in front of his car. I didn't smoke him or anything but that's the way it happened.
On the B16A, I know it doesn't say B16A1 on the block. On the B16A1 DOHC is written bigger than V-tec. On the B16A2's V-tec is written bigger than DOHC.
