I have a 99 Ford Ranger 4wd 5 speed 3.0L with 157k miles on it. I'm not sure if this is relevant but my shift motor stopped working and was smashed to pieces because it got stuck in 2 low a few months ago.

So I posted a couple weeks ago about this issue but I figured I would just make a new post...I was driving down the road one day and the engine light came on and the truck started vibrating like I had a flat tire but all my tires are of normal psi. I continued driving it and it will randomly vibrate for a few seconds then go away. When it first started I could feel something knocking around and it felt like it was right underneath my feet but it doesn't do that anymore. I think that whatever it is is in the front driver side wheel..It's in a part that's always moving even when the truck isn't in motion. The other day when I started the truck it started slightly knocking, but it is not in the engine. Today I was on the highway going about 55 for a while and after about 15 minutes it started vibrating like it has been and then it got really really loud. It did this for a few seconds and then went away. My mechanic took it for a drive and it wouldn't vibrate for him! I have looked around underneath the truck and don't see anything in the way of the wheel turning but haven't taken the wheel off yet..I will be doing that tomorrow. Is there anything I should be looking for besides obvious pieces out of place and such? Oh yeah and about the engine code, it has to do with the EGR system but the light has been randomly coming on every couple months for a while now. Does this sound like anything that has happened to anyone? I will update tomorrow after taking the wheel off. Any help is appreciated! THanks

Check your exhaust system. A plugged, or burned out cat converter might cause all the issues you cite.

I have a 95 2.3 and it had similar issues. I replaced the internally collapsed muffler and all these issues went away.

Also check your motor/tranny mounts.
