More info on the 94 toyota rebuild. please help

The guy that did the compression test on my truck did do a "leak down" test and cylinders 1 and 2 are 100% leak, while 3 and 4 are 20% leak. The compression I was told has to be 'going' somewhere?? To which I was told there was a hissing noise from the intake manifold and then he said somethig else about "intake valves" and "between the head gasket". Just to re-elaborate, im trying to determine whether there may be alarger problem than just a blown head gasket. This is the 2nd blown head gasket after a rebuilt engine 2 years ago. Thanks sooo much. I had the 3,000 rebuild BECAUSE I understand there is so much reliabilty in the 22R. If it is a cracked head? shouldnt this have been caught by the machine shop? I was also given the suggestion teh machine shop possibly machined away too much from the head on the first rebuild???

Ah... More info. Hissing sounds are a big clue. If the head gasket blew between the cylinders it would cause the engine to die. Possiblly the timing of your timing may have jumped a tooth. But having the trouble between #1 & 2 indicates a head gasket problem. But what is the cause? Higher compression would be a good hypothesis. A new head gasket and a shim may fix the problem. It'll take some measuring but it is a try.

But if you are fed up with your luck, I'd look arround for a rebuilt engine. Up here you could get an engine for about 1500 bucks. It takes a little looking around but it is possible. The labor to get it installed is extra of course. Just make sure it is the same year and engine to bypass any issues. Also a rebuilt head may be in order if you don't want to get the whole engine. But the question stands, did they rebuild the short block right? Either way it'll take a lot of work. I wish you the best and trucky truck good health from hear on in.
