I have a 1993 del Sol Si, it has the 1.6L SOHC engine, D16Z6, 5-spd tranny.
Here's how it started out. Started up fine to go pick up food. Drove maybe 2 miles and stopped at food place and turned engine off. Tried to start up 5-10 min after turning off and started to but quit. Tried again and failed. Got it pushed started. Drove home, 1 mile at most. Tried starting it again for the heck of it, and no go. Checked the fuses, all good, then checked starter. Starter didn't turn over when jumped, so I replaced the starter and tried again. Nothing, no clicking or anything. >:( So reading Haynes repair manual, reading the ignition check and am not getting the check engine and battery lights on the dash, which book states means not getting any power to necessary items.
What would cause this to not even start the starter when jumping the battery to solenoid? And the battery is good. Any reasonable suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Here is an older pic of engine bay, nothing has really changed so still good pic.

Ignition switch!

But is it still the ignition switch when we pushed started it once with the old starter and now it will not really start with a push start? I don't know a lot about cars, but I am trying to learn more about fixing them and such.

And checking for diagnostic codes, I do not get any codes, which is saying that the ECM is not getting power. Does that mean that I need to get an ECM before my car will run again.

Check the fuse going to the ECU.

All the fuses that I know of are all good and not blown. I checked the engine bay fuse panel and under the dash and no fuses are blown. Is there another fuse for the ECU somewhere else?
So I also checked the main relay to see if it had power and continuity so that is eliminated from a list of problems. Also was suggested to me is that the engine ground is not connected anymore. Is there one and could that be the problem? That explains the starter not starting when jumping it straight from the battery. But still am baffled by this.

it sounds like the ignition switch.. common honda problem.. if you have no ignition lights, try playing with the key to see if you can find a sweet spot that works. then start the car and return to the sweet spot. its probably the plastic key switch mounted to the back side of the key cylinder.

Would the ignition stop the whole car from getting power? We tried jumping the starter straight from the battery and got nothing. And while it was being towed around the our block, it would kind of start, but it sounded terrible, like it wasn't controlled, like everything was off, and then did the ECU check and it wasn't getting any power. What would cause that, other than a bad ECU?

yes it would.. try playing with the key to see if you can get the lights to come on.. also there should be a ground wire that goes from your tranny to the frame rail. but if your not getting power to the cluster when you turn the ignition on, and the battery is connected, and no rats ate your wires, i would check the ignition "switch". located on the back of the keycylinder

Ok well i looked at the tranny ground wire and it was completely separated from the connector to the chassis. To judge if it was only the wire, took jumper cables and attached to the negative battery post and the dash lights came on and it started up no problem. Now to find a wire to replace it. 4 gauge?
And thanks for the info and help. :)
