Winterfest 2010 - Part 2

Hey guys - here is some video from my escapades at Winterfest. Aside from a few bumps and scrapes (don't they know not to slow down in front of me!?!), I had some some great racing with Vipers and Porsches. If you watch my videos, and Brian's, you'll see much different driving styles. I'd say I am generally more aggressive, and Brian more patient. Amazingly enough, our best times of every weekend are within 1/10 of a sec, consistently. Very strange... but I am quite sure if we could combine the best of what each of us does, we'd pick up a second or two.
Anyway... here is Saturday's race.
http://vimeo.com/9103276
Highlights:
up to 3min, busy race start (ends with a black-flag-all, they bring us into the pits and restart race a little later)
9:00 passing a couple cars
11:20 passing a porsche
14:00 to 18:00 close racing with a viper, ends in a hairy move at 18:00 at entrance to turn 17 -- but it worked, i didn't see them anymore.
20:40 more close racing with a viper
23:30 I rear end a sports racer (oops)
Enjoy - i'll post the sunday race later.

Thanks for posting Daniel, enjoyed watching both vids. Cant believe how many Vipers are competing at this type of event compared to Corvettes.

Get video. Thanks for posting. Man those Vipers have great acceleration. You've got cornering speed all over them.

Great video! (sucks about the wing in your dash...) I was wondering when you would get by the Viper. He sure was strong in the straights, any idea what HP?
But be honest now... that "aggressive move" that got you by him looked to me like a late brake going bad, with a blessing from the Panoz Gods that put everything back into place.

I agree with Squerly...agressive my ass...LUCKY! Same reason he has a wing in his dash that I had to fix.

squerly and brian... for the record... i referred to my driving style as "generally more agressive," and i referred the successful pass in turn 17 as a "hairy move." I think those are pretty accurate statements.
It was hairy, no doubt. and yes, there was some "lock up - release - countersteer/collect - reapply brake - then continue" action going on there ... and of course I was flanked by a wall and a viper.
but those two vipers were really pissing me off...
:) :)

Well it was a nice pass and I'm sure it set new records as to how tight one's ass can get... :) Your driving skills appear to be pretty well refined, all except for that wing thing at the end of the video. Will that put you on suspension for the next 18 months?

I'm always running up on the ass end of those things. They really piss me off. :cwm27:

Was this with the Panoz at 450rwhp and the 650 carb?

That Ford GT looked a lot like the Robertson Racing car.

HE DEF PASSED UNDER YELLOW...good catch! Mr. Clean is what a crew member named Dan for the weekend. Between Dan and I we did everything you can do on a race track....eventful to say the least...LMFAO in some weird Dr. Jekle kinda way....hehe
The car was with a 390CFM carb with 450RWHP
That was Robertsons backup GT since during the 6hr. night race the night before Mrs. Robertson had some contact with a miata and went backwards into concrete TOTALLING the main race car. This is an almost stock GT with some minor stuff on it. She is also much slower than other drivers.
There was several ALMS and World Challenge teams in attendance....plus IMSA lites....and more.

That really stinks about the Robertson car. They're super nice people and have really brought that car along.

passed under yellow... i think that is definitely debate-able in this situation. I was basically half way between the two flagging stations. No yellow at the station I just passed, waving yellow at the next station. But, the yellow flag was not in sight yet. How can you know its yellow until you can see it? I know I hit the guy to cause the yellow, but he easily could have gotten going again, or been towed out of the way already.
The flagger at the yellow-corner did not see me pass him, otherwise he would have called it in and they would have penalized me. So, if he couldnt see the pass, then I couldnt see him either.
