07R – Interim Colours

I posted here – ages ago! – several photos of 07R in it’s
Silver/Papaya duo-colour scheme, taken at Knockhill Circuit, Scotland
circa August 1998, just after Larry Kinch bought it from ‘someone
named’ Paul Picard(?) in France – or it could have been, thinking
about it – from Paul Ricard (circuit) in France One passing comment
from Larry on the ‘phone, 12 years back, is a bit of a dim and distant
memory, after all!

Does anyone have validation of the previous owners of 07R prior to
Larry? Also, are there any other photos of the car in it’s
Silver/Papaya colours, prior to it’s dispatch for a Papaya paint job
at Woking?

MdS.

I think most, if not all, of my shots in my folder came from you - I'll host what I've got (I think 1 or 2 may have crept in that are actually #01R...)

I'll try and mail my former model maker in Scotland, Mark and see if he still has any photos he took of the car that day too, as he was commissioned to convert a 1.43rd Minichamps GTR to the Larry-spec car. If I get a result, I'll host and post.

When I was conversing with Flemke over the colouring of his F1, around the time the videos of #040 and #13R were being driven near Virginia Waters, I commented which F1 GTR he would like. I can't remember his answer, but I can remember I replied stating were I in that position I wanted #07R if #01R wasnt available :)

EDIT - and it was the first 1/43 I bought too ;)

Interesting thread :)

It is stated the car was delivered in France in Giroix team I supposed. What about Paul Ricard name in this story ?
Larry Kinch made the conversion, right ? Lanzante or factory in 2000/2001 ?

Where is #07R now ?

Phil,

If I recall correctly, Larry shipped the car in from France circa June or July 1998. He said to me it needed exhausts for road-legality at a cost of ... 15,000 GBP. I only saw/was in the car once in August 1998 at Knockhill. Think he commissioned McLaren at a later stage to respray it completely in Historic Orange. The car was likely to sit in his 'toy box' amidst the stellar-provenance Jaguars and Ferraris until he grew bored of it and sold it on ...

I never heard any reports from the Aberdeen area that it was ever seen on the roads there. But his home to then-office wasn't too far and I saw him a couple of times having taken his Japanese-import XJR15 to work.

#07R is near Basingstoke at Oakfields

McLaren recevied the car in Feb 2000 after a minor front end accident and proceeded with a fairly intensive overhaul of the car, conversion to UK SVA regulations, and that's also when the respray to full Papaya was completed. I believe the car was ready after repairs, updates and respray in October of that year.

Thanks you two :)

XJR15 !!!

So, the car is actually in UK but the plate doesn't work in DVLA. Can you say when Larry Kinch sold the car ? After or before 2003 ?

When Larry owned it the car wore UK plate '16 LK'. He sold the car in July 2002.

I have heard its owned by Ian Donaldson and he doesn't have an interest in selling it right now. May or may not be true, but it has been there quite a while in their showroom.
