Locking Hubs

Will driving around day to day with my front hubs in the lock position and not in 4WD cause any damage ? What about at highway speeds?
1989 4Runner V6 I was told it would be simple "wear and tear" on the hubs, not ideal to do but not going to cause any permanent damage as long as I kept a close eye on the oil level in the hubs.

Just wear and tear, and the increased drag will lower your mpg a bit.
And there is no oil level in the hubs to keep an eye on.

It's the grease in your wheel bearings that need to be checked now and then and properly done as by your manual.
