Hi all, this will be my first build report on AF, so let's hope I can get you all interested ;)

I'd read this topic of the 959 and it lured my to AF.

I'm also building this car and I've just started on the engine.
I've removed all panel lines (which were quie a lot) and dry-fitted al enqine parts.

When all fitted correctly, I started painting the aluminum parts. First in gloss black and then in Alclad Aluminum

The engine bloc will stil need a second shade of paint on the black parts in Duraluminum. The transmission and some of the suspension parts are already painted semi-gloss black.

While the paint was drying, I'd done some bodywork. Again, the panellines were removed and the rear wing received some putty and sanding. Also the side blinkers were removed and will be replaced by transparent onse later on.

Good work removing those ugly panel lines at the back.
I'll be watching this one too.

I have two 959's in my display case.

Any thought on color yet?

As a matter of fact I do :)

I've though of different colours, but I think it will be Artic Silver with a medium gray interior. This was the colour setting it was presented in as a streetversion.
Red and white don't really fit this car (my opinion) and black is too... uhm, black. :rolleyes:

With the tips I read here, I started to detail the engine compartment and engine lid. I made some mesh for the inside of the air intake and cut some squares that will be the start of the fan housings.

Then I drilled small holes for the bolts of the different panels. I also added a small piece of styreen to fill the gap of the rear lights.

The airfilter also got some minor details. I'd already made an opening into the airfilter, but yesterday I inserted two small pieces of scrap PE to make the two vertical 'struts' in the air intake.

Indeed... I'm doing the small bits these days. Next were the shock adsorbers. The coil springs were caste together with the whole shock assembly. I cut off the coil springs and made new ones using iron wire.

The picture, unfortunately, doesn't show the impovement quite good because everything is black. But thrust me, the new shocks (below) are much better. Then I saw a flaw in the kit. The front shocks should each have 2 coil springs and not one. So those will be addressed too.

Next up where the small squares on the side skirts, which I 'made' using a panel scriber.

While I was scribing the small panels, I noticed that the filler cap for the fuel was sitting on the wrong side. Or was it???

After looking through dozens of photos, I came to the conclusion, that the 959 has 2 filler caps. One on each side.

So I scribed a second filler cap on the body.

Looking good so far! Looks like you need to do a couple of minor repairs to the RHS window frame.

That's correct. The kit was deliverd with some shipping damage, but it's easy to fix. You won't see anything once it is finished. :)

I finished the fans for the engine hood. I also created the hinges.

Later on, I decided to cut out the trunk lid. There for I had to create a small insert, where the lid will rest on when closed.

I also had to make de air intake with the small vertical panels. The rest is finished with puty.

And finally I detailed the inside of the lid.

The inside of the trunk lid only needs to get a ring around the filler cap. And of course the entire trunk space needs to be scratched.

glad to here your doing well, model looks great

about the rear wheel... i had to remove the engine side half of the two part muffler
in order to get it to fit.

Beautiful recreation of one of (in my opinion) the BEST looking Porsches of all time.
