Quick Speaker Question

Hey all,

I am a newbie. I am getting rid of my current Thunderbird and getting me a 96 Civic DX. :D

My T-Bird took two pairs of 6x8 speakers. However, my Honda is listed as taking only 6x9's in the rear deck. Does anyone know if I could somehow keep one pair of my speakers from my T-Bird and put them in the Honda rear deck without having to modify anything?

The 6x8 is too small, you will have a gap around the spaeker and will not sound good at all. You really need to put 6x9's in the CIVIC

Dang! That's kind of what I figured. Oh well.

One more question...

If I installed the 6x8's in the 6x9 holes, how much gap are we talking- half an inch on each side? Would I be able to overcome that by surrounding the speaker with some 3M Foam Adhesive tape?

I guess you could fill the gap with someting. But I really think if you put the 6x8 in there it wouldn't even sound as good as the factory 6x9.
Think about where your speakers were mounted in the T-bird.
Door, and rear seat location. that speaker worked well in that small air space. now you put that speaker in the rear deck, and now your using the whole trunk for air space. It's up to you, I just think if you put them in there you are going to want to change them. and putting speakers in the back of the 96+ civic is no walk in the park.
so basicly what I am saying is do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again.

You don't need 6x9's. As long as there is enough room in the hole for the magnet (there probably will be), you'll be fine. You will have to make a custom baffle though to fill in the space around the speaker. If you're the least bit mechanically inclined, it should be no problem. Take a thin piece of MDF, or any other rigid stock and find a way to mount that to the car, then mount the speakers to that. I did this for my front doors, and it took no more than 30minutes.
