Yamaha YZR M1 2004 - "It's a rainy day..."

Hello,

Some days ago the following idea came to my mind - i should finish one of my models what i started years ago. I looked around and found an YZR with Gauloises livery what i started around 2 years ago. I decided to build it with rain set-up.
It will not be a super-detailed bike, only some very minor upgrade is done, with some CF and some few pieces of p/e parts.
Body parts were already paiinted and clearcoat for 2 years, so i just had to deal with the smaller parts. Body color is Zero Gauloises Yamaha blue coated with Zero 2K clear.
This is the current status.

That is from p/e. I installed it to a minidrill and while rotating i touched it with rough sandpaper

When you look in my thread, you will see that I've also used some raintyres from geronimo.


For the painting I used a little technique called drybrushing.

I used following steps; primer, gloss black, decals, mat varnish, drybrushing antracite black, a little wash of paynes grey on the decals.

You can use the techique what ketje described. Or simply semigloss black. I used tamiya X-18 over resin primer. a bit overthinned to have good spray and make it a bit flatter than original semigloss. When i painted it with airbrush, for the last coat i made a very thin layer just a bit of spray to make it flatter then semigloss.

but I had some problems bending the rotors to correct shape and using the small rings I changed with plasicard rings. Which technique did you use to make them so perfect? :cheers:

Hi,
You are right that is not easy. I experienced that that it is not easy to cut out the small rings from the plate. So i used a more rough way - i cut the metal sheet with a big scissors in a way to cut also one of the connection lines. Then i used minidrill to sand the edge. Than i used a make-up tweezer and with a simple rotation the small ring could be removed. Than anotner sanding with the minidrill and it is ready :)

Yes it's not at all ! And it is quite easy to bend the rings too... Don't you think are too thin? I love that disc but is it not possible to have them already done in resin ??? :biggrin:

Well from resin you cannot have same look at the end. I mean that metal look.
But if you cut with scissors i think it is possible to cut without bending. That is true that is you try with blade, it is easy to bend it. But also it is easy to make it smooth again if you press hard to metal things together between the small disc :)

Hello everybody,

After some days without any progress, i almost managed to finish my 4th bike model. it is 99,9% finished, just some paint correction is left. I know that it could have much more details, but this time my goal was not to build a full detailed bike, just to see how my stuff looks on a finished bike. I will post some better pics from the finished bike when it comes back from a model show. But i hope you like it. These shots were made on my desk, on the background you can see that it is not laboratory clean :)
