98 Camry engine replacement.

I have a 98 Toyota camry 2.2L and i am looking to upgrade from a stock engine. what is the biggest posible engine i can put in it. Also i was told that a 2jz swap could fit perfectly with the chasis and i could easily change the rearend to RWD all i would like to know if this is true. If so i know that this is the biggest strongest engine possible. thanks

I think someone has been telling you stories. An inline-6 will be much longer (and I believe taller) than any engine installed by Toyota and will never fit in as a rear-wheel drive engine. In order to use this engine, you would have to extend the front clip at least a foot to provide clearance. There is no way it will fit as a transverse front-wheel drive engine. There were all-wheel drive Camrys available, but none with a inline 6.

Anything is possible, but you would be creating a new car, not modifying a Camry...

The best route for you would be buying a V6 Camry and making due with the available mods.

the thing is i don't want to put in a lousy v6 i would like to put something that is available to a strong turbo. with a v-6 engine it will only be able to withstand 11PSI from a turbo unless it was boared out than it can take 15PSI but i want to use something that can withstand a 32-36PSI turbo.

I think you need to find a used Supra or SC-300.

Supercharger kits are available for the Camry (Solara) V6 via Toyota's TRD division. If you can find a junked Solara from that year, you can do the engine/tranny/ECM swap then bolt on the blower. You even get a warranty on it. But granted, it puts out a tepid 4 psi boost. Any engine you want to withstand the boost you're looking for will need serious upgrading.

It will save you plenty of headache and money trying to shoehorn an I-6 longitudinally AND find room under the unibody for the drive train for a RWD....you'd need to cut the floorboard and center console to accommodate the tunnel.

If you really want a fast blown sedan, ditch the Camry. There are easier cars out there to mod.
[EDIT] Turbos have been fitted to 4-banger Camrys, just no kits available through TRD. They run ~6-7 psi boost...again probably to keep from having to upgrade engine components.

i have recently discovered that they did not make any v-6 camry's that are 5speed so how else could i get a v-6 5speed does the salora have one? Also i did think about getting a better car to tune out but the thing is that honda's are too overpopulated and its rare to find an eclipse around here also i would love to do it to a car that no one would think of seeing.

Consider an SC-300. They are pretty easy to ignore...
