5th gen H22 into a 4th gen

Is it a straight swap for a 5th gen H22 into my 4th gen lude? I have a H23 now and can't decide between the swap and turbo. Would I need the tranny and ecu? motor mounts the same?

Thanks for any info.

It's pretty much a straight up swap. You don't need any thing except, the ECU. You will have to add the additional wires needed for Vtec to properly function. All F / H series motors use the same transmissions. Change the transmission only if you want the Vtec's gear ratios.

you'll need a lot more additional wiring to make the whole motor fuction due to relocated sensors.

I think I'm going to stick with the H23 for now...do the bolt on's first than head work, followed up by building the block. If that's not enough for me - turbo...If I blow the motor than I would swap for the H22, for the extra ponies and better aftermarket support...

and the reason why is that the 5th gen H22A4 has quite a few revisions to the electrical equipment over the H22A1 from the 93-95 Prelude due to OBD II requirements.

the 96 prelude is it's own unique beast altogether.

So, if I were to swap, would it be easier to stay with the 4th gen H22 into my 93?

yes. or you'll need to use your H23 dizzy with a 4th gen H22 engine harness, or just rewire it properly.

or you can simply rewire everything to work with the 5th gen sensor array.

I swaped my H23 out and put and H22a from a 97 JDM lude. The motor is no doubt better, but if the H23 doesn't have any problems you can turbo it for the same price as a full swap. Power to dollar ratio...turbo is better.
