Check the vacuum hose going to the servo. It may be cracked or the diaphragm in the servo has a hole in it. The servo is connected to the throttle linkage. There may not be enough vacuum present to operate the cruise when going up a steep hill. You can compensate for that by installing a vacuum reservoir. Route the vacuum source to a cannister so you have enough vacuum to operate the cruise. You'll have the vacuum source going in and the vacuum source for the cruise going back out again.

thanks for the reply. i looked at the servo used a vacum tester it seemed to hold fine also checked the vacum hose. it looked a little wore so i went ahead and replaced it. stil does the same thing. i was told there might be a adjustable screw o it somewhere so u ca adjust the cruise control. if so where might it be and how would u go about adjusting this correctly. it seems to be getting worse.

Is it a single cable unit & throttle cable, or dual cable unit & throttle cable? If it's the single cable, it could be the VSS that fits on the end of the speedo cable & that, fits into the transmission. Two wire connector. Acts like it falls out, then cuts back in? Changed mine this week. Part $57./10 minutes of elbow grease. However if it's 2 cable, can't help ya. No idea how that works.
