Paint and Coverings on an automobiles

Not just any paint can be thrown on a car. It takes delicate time and the right supplies to perform even the smallest of jobs. I am trying to make a cover for a goods-transporting-truck that will cover the whole metal container. What kind of material is needed to do such a thing? I thought about using plastic but it may need some kind of coating. The appearance doesn't need to be great. Any and all help is appreciated.
