Have a helper get in the trunk with a flashlight while you run water over the car. If it's a bad leak, you should be able to see where it is coming from.

the trunk leak is most always the left/right lower window corners.
the metal here traps debris that leads to leaking ..remove this metal window material ...on finding the hole use fiberglass horse hair ...sand/grind all the rust / paint and then apply the fiberglass..
the other area would be the wheel wells...that is usually at the metal seams on the fabrication of the vehicle..GM uses a sealer that fails after 10 years..once this sealer cracks the water and road chemicals waste no time to destroy these areas..
On day one of vehicle purchase knowing all this I coat these areas with a brush on undercoating of a mineral based product , that does not harden,,,,called RUSFRE ....ITS ABOUT 12.00/GALLON...thin with mineral spirits/paint thinner...

that long metal piece right behind the trunk lid is held on by six screws, EVERY GM car ive seen with this design has rust built up under there leading to trunk leaks.

To make things easier i outlined on mine the metal piece that has to be removed, and the black dots are where the screws are located (the crome trim on the bottom of the glass has to be removed to get to the top 3 screws) under that metal piece is where all the rust hides, mine had large hole on the left corner: http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo275/pctvguy/trunkleakspot.jpg hope this helps.

so your not talking about the metal thing lining the window your talking about the like2 inch thing conecting the trunk and the window?

yeah, but it wouldnt be a bad idea to remove the trim around the glass just to check the seal around the window too. be careful when taking off the window trim though theres little plastic clips holding it on and they get brittle and snap after a while.

anyone who has done this knows that after 10years those clips will break..the auto part stores should have these clips..bring in the old clip for correct replacement ...or scrap yard but those will also be brittle..
the entire window trim should be removed and repair any/all the rust spots.then use a sealer that is correct for glass to metal contact..dow 745 is a good product..
