I think I have a bad motor mount on the drivers side, can I just jack up the motor a little and swap it out? IS it a rough job to do? I can put it in drive and with my foot on the brake rev it up and watch the drivers side of the engine raise a few inches, seems more than normal to me

If it's 4WD it's a rough job. If it's 2WD it's a little easier but still no fun. I don't think I'd try it without a hoist. The jack stands will always be in your way.

I thought maybe I could lift it up enough with a jack and get a new one in, without using jack stands

Take a look in there, there is virtually no room to work. Even on a hoist you need to be a contortionist to get at it.

do you know how many hours a shop will charge for this? I have a shop close to my house and they charge 55.00 an hour for labor, but was wandering how many hours it says in the book they use (the one that tells them the hours or something)

I don't have a flat rate manual handy right now but I think it's probably in the neighborhood of 3 hours.

would that be for both sides or just one side? Did you see the post a I after I replaced the fuel nut lines?

That's per side, and yes I did.

Why do you suspect bad motor nounts? Can you see that they are bad? Please describe your symptoms. Typically, it is the drivers side that goes out first because that is they way the motor torques.

Here is one way to tell. Set the parking brake, Start the truck and shift to drive, with both feet hard on the brake pedal, then with the hood open and someone watching the engine, slowly rev the engine DO NOT GUN THE ENGINE. If your motor mount is broken, you will see the motor rise up off of the mount. If this happens, stop the gas and shut off the engine IMMEDIATELY. Do not let the engine rise too far up or your fan will hit the fan shroud and could cause more damage.

Old Master is right. I did my '93 in the driveway with jack stands and a floor jack. It is a real bitch. I think I had about 4 hours into it by the time I got finished. You will need two people, a good selection of wrenches, sockets, long extensions and a lot of patience. I would suggest if you do it yourself, do it one side at a time. Diconnect the battery because the passenger's side mount is right next to the hot lead on the starter, and you will arc out.
