Just when you thought your wallet was safe the Hiro skunkworks is at it again. I took a quick look at their website and they're planning a Lotus 56b Turbine F1 and a new Matra MS80 to be released in the next couple of months.

They are also hinting at a foray into injection-molding (at least partially) with a new Ferrari 312T4 kit but no date on that one.

Then there's the news that gets me really revved: a full-detail Porsche 917 LH with Martini #3 livery. That's the really wild looking blue longtail with the flashy green stripes - man, I gotta build that!:runaround:

That is 917 LH is one of my all time favorites. I really look forward to this one coming out. It could be the first MFH-kit for me... Letīs see how it turns out to be.

I have many contact to Kyoko of Model Factory Hiro and i ask them to build different Versions of the 917.
I have over 2000 reference pictures which i send to kyoko.
They also have planed to make more Versions then the 917 long tail.
But until now they did not decide.

I hope also the 1971 Le Mans Versions.

The hippie 917 is a MUST-HAVE. If they also do the MUST-HAVE Vic Elford silver Martini from 1971 then I need to sell the kids.:loser:

I think you have to start sale your kits....:naughty:

If Model Factory Hiro already produce the 1970 long tail,so there are not many changes to the 1971 version to do.

I just hope for the white Martini short tail Le Mans Winner 1971 and also the Long tail Martini 1971 and of course for the large pink pig.:iceslolan

This kit already exist. Both from Fujimi and also from Heller. The LT is much more interesting.

I agree Allan. But don't get me wrong. The Fujimi 917k is a great model, especially in combination with the HRM engine transkit. There have been some spectacular builds here on AF to prove it. I bought the combo and plan (planned?) to do one myself. But I've always felt the LH version was the prettier car. To me, it's kinda like comparing a spaceship with a hot rod. The problem was that no one ever offered one in high-detail. Until now that is. Of all the liveries my favorite is the Martini #3. The colors are so wild. Even the fat, exaggerated shape of the numbers is appealing to me in some mysterious way.

With all the great subjects being released in high-detail it's a great time to be into scale modeling.

I've been jumping up and down doing the peepee dance like a 12 year old waiting for this model to release - since January! Today the car model fairy finally knocked on the door and handed me a box full of modeling goodness and I've been slobbering over it ever since.

This model is fantastic! I count 250 parts in the engine alone and thats not counting the trans or exhaust system. The metal castings are smooth and highly detailed, white resin body parts are thin and fit together without flaw. The decals are complete and nicely registered. There's even tire valves and a rubber space saver spare!

I'm still looking over the instructions but would guess this model has 400+ parts. $280 is a lot for a model but this one was money well spent - especially considering how long it will take to research and build. Thanks to Kevin at stradasports.com for putting up with my badgering.

I'll post some pics if others are interested.

Looks like Hiro has started to listen to us. The white metal in this kit reminds me of smooth surfaces of the old Climax days. Gone are those rough serrated textures. Also, the body is quite thin and light with the rear hinge molded in like Climax used to do. They also included the correct scale wire and hose. I've begun check-fitting major parts and they fit very well right out of the box. That's something previously unheard of in a Hiro. Perhaps best of all, the body isn't a white metal pig. (I think the 962 might edge this 917 out in part count but that 962 body is a fright!)

Then there are the little details like the amber fiberglass parts, photo-etch cooling fins, exhaust and intake flanges, throttle linkage springs, the multitude of plumbing fittings, clear and accurate instructions, on and on. Frankly, I can't find one thing to gripe about. It's just a great model kit.

Ok, I do have a concern over the joint between the engine and driver tub. The firewall is just a thin piece of photo-etch which could allow the car to sag a little from the weight over time. The rear suspension is a series of thin white-metal links that could also bend over time but these things are easy to beef up when building (if it's even necessary). It's hard to judge how stiff these joints will become when all the parts are glued together.
