99 mone carlo charging proplems

alternator is not charging but is good. the wirer running to the alternator to energize it, only shows 5volts so the alternator is not charging. checked codes and is shows one for the camshaft sensor and one for low volts at the MIL. If i run a positive wire straight from the battery to the alternator in place of the wire showing that is showing low voltage the alternator charges. I have already replaced battery. ANY IDEAS?? when the engine is running the alternator [big red wire ] should have 14.25volts dc when cold at cold start up...

the current flow to the battery can be measured with a amp meter..
to verify it is putting out the correct amount...

the smaller wires may not have the full 12 volts..I think you may have 2 wires going to this small connector...these would operate the battery/charge dash light..

did you disassemble the alternator and check the diodes/stator for correct readings..brushes ?

these alternators usually fail around 130,ooomi. especially if aftermarket electrical equiptment was installed.
