I have a bad engine in my 88 4 wheel drive. 2.8 s15 and i have a 2.8 out of a 82 s10 2 wheel drive. if I change intakes will the engine work. both have manual fuel pumps and looks like it will work. I know some swapping will have to be done. I would rather use an engine I already have instead of buying or rebuilding the bad one.

Hopefully both vehicles are auto transmissions, right? If the 82 was an auto and the '88 has a manual trans, you may have a problem with the pilot bushing. Otherwise you should be fine.

But, do not rev the hell out of the '82 engine, no more than 4500 rpm. The early 2.8's had undersized crank bearings for high rpm work, and will spin or damage bearings long before the valves float. (The #5 rod bearing usually goes first).

The 2.8 block was revised with larger bearings in mid-1985, so your bad engine has a better bottom end than the 'good' engine. But so long as the revs are kept reasonable, the old 2.8's last a long time.

But, imo, while its out, you should replace the timing chain, oil pump and take a look at the crank bearings. Consider lightly polishing the crank bearings and install new bearing shells. Also, replace the rear main seal. The original one was rope, I believe and liked to leak. The upgraded ones are neoprene rubber, as I recall.

I apologize, but this is an 85 engine I had put in the 82. I just didnt think about it my first post. And yes both are automatics. Im not into high revving. Settled down with age. LOL I just dont see spending money when I dont have to. I may be posting parts a little later also. My 82 tranny was just rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago. My 82 just got rear ended and totaled. So parts from one to the other.

i got engine in and runs . but I got bad engine vibration now. changed flywheel, harmonic balancer, still engine vibrations. worse at low rpms. im at a loss . I know engine ran smooth before. I drove the truck across yard to shop to pull motor. i'm gonna undo transmission convertor to see if that helps. All I can think of. Anyone have any ideas? I could use some. Thanks
