97 2.2 head gasket leaking

head gasket leaking antifreeze on block not in oil. this is the second one. about 140,000 miles on this one. i heard if you take the outer head bolts out an put a good coat of pipe sealant on them and reinstall them this might take care of the problem. has anyone heard of this? also its been awhile since i did one if you remove the head to put a new gasket on can you leave the fuel rail on it? this is just a old work car i drive 100 miles a day hate to send it to the grave yard.so far i got240,000 miles on it.it has the small 4cyl in it

I would never use any liquid that is intended to seal a leak. Most don't work. If you find one that does work, then logically it should plug the radiator, heater core, and passages in the block and head. They're designed to harden when exposed to air, but if the coolant gets low or there's an air pocket, guess what happens?

Not sure what shops charge, I do nothing with the billing, I won't dispute that number. Sounds close.

Ads by Google are still ads... Steel Seal pays for the ad, Google just recognizes key words eg. "head gasket leak", and then inserts the ad for this product. It's a wonderful method for advertising, have ads related to the topic, makes perfect sense. I have never seen a stop-leak product that actually worked for more than a few weeks. Because of how it works, I'd be very hesitant to put it in a car that I was going to repair if the stop-leak didn't work. I put some in my truck years back... I still have some hardened inside the radiator because it didn't work fast enough. The coolant got low, and the part exposed to air hardened. I assume it's hardened inside the block as well. I have never used this product, so for all I know it works, I just wouldn't go experimenting on anything I own. The only time I would use a stop-leak product (again) for any system was if I was going to junk the vehicle if the $10 fix didn't work.

N20 is like crack, I'd say stop-leak is more like huffing expanda-foam :)

I thought you meant $800 to replace the head gasket.

I won't say that nobody has ever charged for a repair and only added a chemical, but I think it's very rare.
