bad coil?

I have a 98 Ford Ranger 4X4 5spd manual 3.0 with about 157k miles on it. The other day I was driving and my check engine light came on while I was driving. It then started to vibrate like I had a flat tire or like there was something stuck in the wheel. I looked under the truck and there was nothing in the way of any turning parts. While idling, the engine sounds perfectly fine and runs normal. It only vibrates in motion. I haven't had the chance to scan the code yet but I'm sure the code will help me a lot. Does this sound like it could be a bad coil? That's the only thing I can think of without scanning it. Any help would be appreciated!
